(Tice) Davenport's obituary - Laurine L. (Tice) Davenport, 77, of Fieldon, died at 5:15 a.m. today, Dec. 20, 1986, at Jersey Community Hospital. Born in Goodlan, Ind., the daughter of the late William C. and Anna Mabelle (Clairmont) Tice, she was a school teacher in the Unit 100 School District for 18 years, retiring in 1958. She married LaVern Davenport on Feb. 1, 1929 in Jerseyville. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1981. Surviving are five sons, Leslie Lavern and Gary Leon, both of Jerseyville, Donald Ray of Beckemeyer, Herbert Lee of Macon, Ga., and James David of Fieldon; one daughter Marilyn Kay Pruitt of Fieldon; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchilden; and one brother, Clarence Tice of Anderson, Ind. Visitation was from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services were Monday at Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville. Don Beach's first wife, and Laverne Davenport's father Walter Davenport's second wife Stella (Harmon) Beach Davenport's obituary - Stella (Harmon) Beach Davenport, 76 years, 1 months, 9 days, died at 1 :20 pm Sunday, November 1, 1953 at Boyd Memorial hospital in Carrollton following a few weeks illness. The deceased was a daughter of the late Henry C. & Mary (Reddish) Harmon and was born in Jersey County, September 24, 1877. Mrs Davenport is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Lester Dabbs and Mrs. Carl Dehner of Jerseyville; 1 step-son Laverne Davenport of Fieldon; 5 grandchildren; 11 g-grandchildren, and 1 g-g-granddaughter, and 4 sisters, Mrs Joseph Slover and Mrs. Louis Houseman of Jerseyville, Mrs. Gertrude Black of Elsberry, Missouri, and Mrs. ?? He was born in Jerseyville on Nov. 30, 1934, the son of the late Lavern and Laurine (Tice) Davenport. Les was a retired truck driver, and was a U.S. Air Force Korean War Veteran. Surviving are three children, Lori, Della and John, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Fred Pruitt of Godfrey; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Doretta Davenport of Jerseyville, James and Betty Davenport of Fieldon, Lee and Jane Davenport of Macon, Ga., and Donald Davenport of Fieldon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Leslie L. Davenport Jr.; and an infant brother, Charles William Davenport. Jackson 2nd wife and Julia Elizabeth (Jackson) Cain's grandmother Mahala (Hamilton) Jackson's obituary - Died: Jackson...---At her home in Johnston Township, Washington County, MO., on Monday, January 13th, 1896, Mrs. Mahala Jackson of general debility, age 96 years, and 13 days. Mrs. Jackson was the daughter of Allen and Jane Hamilton born in Washington County, Kentucky on rolling fork of Elkhorn River on January 1, 1800. There in that country of blue grass she resided with her parents and received a limited education such as that country afforded in those days. She was married to John Garrett Sept. 18, 1816 and with him came to Missouri in 1819 and settled on Big Piney in Pulaski County. She bore Garrett, two daughters, now Mrs. Elizabeth Wise and Mrs. Paul DeClue, both living. In 1828 Mr. Garrett died, then with her parents she came to Washington County, Missouri and on 3 June, 1835 married William P. Jackson, and to him bore five sons and three daughters of whom four are living, two sons and two daughters, viz: Jasper and Richard Jackson, Mrs. Visey Wise and Mrs. Lucinda Garrett. Jackson had 58 grand children 39 living and 19 dead 75 great grandchildren 62 living and 14 dead and 4 great great grandchildren 3 living 1 dead. Until about the first of March her health was remarkable good, since then she gradually grew worse until death relieved her on the 13th inst. The remains of Mrs. Jackson were interred in the Smith burying ground on Indian Creek, on Wednesday January 15th, followed to their last resting place by concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives. Donald is survived by three daughters, Penny Basham and husband, Tom, Sue Ann Hall and husband, Marty of Sturgeon, Missouri, Rachel Cain of Moberly, Missouri; three brothers, Billy Joe Cain and wife, Mamie of Mineral Point, Missouri, Daniel Cain and wife, Flo of Mineral Point, Missouri, Kenneth Cain and fianc�, Virginia of Mineral Point, Missouri; one sister, Goldie Lee Boyer and husband, Leonard of Cadet, Missouri; ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Cain, Lindell Cain and one sister, Rose Ann Torwegge. Donald attended the Potosi First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks # 2218 and also of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Ozark Hills Aerie # 3350. Donald loved traveling across the United States, going fishing and dancing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will always be remembered for the love he shared. She was born June 18, 1910, in Richwoods, Mo., one of six children of Joseph and Irene (Mersele) DeClue. She married Roland Mayhew on Dec. 15, 1952, in Chicago. He died in 1976, prompting her to eventually come back to this area to be near her family. A resident of Chicago for many years, she was employed as a group captain at the Stewart-Warner Gauge Co. in Chicago for 30 years before retiring. She is survived by a brother, Leonard DeClue of Jerseyville, and many nieces and nephews who live in the area. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Cletus DeClue, and three sisters, Grace Cain, Blanche Rulo and Lorene Cain. He retired in 1978 as a laborer at Shell Oil Co. after 35 years of service. During his free time, he enjoyed his family, farming south of Jerseyville near Delhi and fox hunting. He was a devout follower of the St. Louis Cardinals. Lola was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who considered her family the center of her life and spent each day counting her blessings that they provided her. She married Otis Dunham on Sept. 30, 1935, in Carrollton. Their marriage spanned nearly 71 years before his death on May 10, 2006. He was born April 7, 1949, in Jersey County to Otis H. and Lola M. (Talley) Dunham. He began his employment with Owens-Illinois Glass Manufacturing before going to work for Amoco Refineries as an operator. He worked for Amoco in Hartford and Independence, Mo., and eventually went to work for Amoco in Yorktown, Va., before retiring in 1999. After his retirement, he went to work for Pere Marquette, where he was employed at the time of his death, and sold real estate for Home of America. He was a member of the Jerseyville Eagles Lodge 2747, Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695 and the American Legion Post 492 in Jerseyville. He served his country during the Vietnam War. He was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Greene County to Otto and Mary (Freand) Dunham. Shortly before his 20th birthday, he married the former Lola Mae Talley on Sept. 30, 1935, in Carrollton. They have shared the past 70 years together. As a young man, he was raised in the Fieldon area and had worked at the quarry and in timber. He retired in 1978 as a laborer at Shell Oil Co. after 35 years of service. During his free time, he enjoyed his family, farming south of Jerseyville near Delhi and fox hunting. He was a devout follower of the St. Louis Cardinals. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Glenn Cain of Jerseyville; four sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Lee Dunham of Fieldon, Richard and Ruth Ann Dunham of Kane, Melvine and Joanne Dunham and Carl and Dorothy Dunham, all of Jerseyville; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Russell of Jerseyville and Marjorie Green of Payson, Ariz. Greer, Clerk of the Virginia State Land Office contains a list of 25,000 persons who came to Virginia from 1623 to 1666 along with the patentee or person who brought them over. In this list is Thomas Prewitt, May 6 1636, indentured by Joane Bennet to Charles River County, Virginia. Joane Bennet received 450 aces in Charles River County, Virginia, upon the Poqueson River, east towards the bay, west into the woods, north upon the Pinye Swamp (river), and south upon Robert Thrasher. 50 acres due for transfer of eight (8) persons...Ann Winter, John Roote, Jon Marshall, Andrew Chant, Jon Morris, Pole Carplights, and Thomas Prewitt. Joane Bennet was a Quaker. Thomas Prewitt was thus brought over to America as an indentured servant. Once a person served five years they received 50 acres of land. On June 2,1636, Thomas Prewitt was granted his 50 acres of land in Clarles River County, Virginia, being a neck of ground at the New Poqueson, west upon William Clark a creek, then east upon Thomas Harwood a creek. The said 50 acres of land being due upon him the said Thomas Prewitt for the transportation of one servant into this colony. It appears that Thomas Prewitt and wife were Quakers and not married by the rules of the established church. Charles River County, Virginia, was changed to York County. In 1646, Thomas Prewitt confessed that he borrowed a canoe from John Wilson and lost it. He was ordered to pay Wilson 2 bushels of corn for the next November 1. This is from records of York County. In 1647, John Thomas has an attachment against Thomas Prewitt to secure a debt of 600 pounds of tobacco. On May 24,1648, Thomas Prewitt confesses judgement to Robert Abrall for 1202 pounds of tobacco to be paid the next October 10. He placed three cows as bounty in the court of York. In 1648, Thomas Prewitt confessed judgement to William Hockaday for 1 1/2 bushels of corn and 56 pounds of tobacco. On July 25,1648, whereas Thomas Privett and his wife were presented to his court for committing fornication and thereof found guilty. Court ordered that they shall do a pennance in the parish Church on the New Pawqueson and during the time of devine servis the next Sabbath Day. The church wardens ordered to see this done. He was born Monday, Oct. 24, 1932, in Kane, Ill., the son of Virgil L. and Opal Abigail (Huff) Pruitt Sr. He married Doris Marie Bowker in Pocahontas, Ark., on Oct. 25, 1952. Virgil served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany and France from 1953 until 1955. He returned to his place of employment at Owens-Illinois Glass in Alton, where he worked 32 years before retiring. He then drove for Langley's and later for Don and Rob Bailey, until a stroke disabled him in 1993. He enjoyed making pancakes for his grandkids, camping and fishing in the Ozarks, cookouts with his kids and grandkids, and listening to gospel and country music. He loved the Lord and his church family, and has missed being with them in recent years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Doris M. Pruitt; five sons, Dan Pruitt (Beth) of Carlinville, Doug Pruitt of Indiana, Greg Pruitt of Charleston, Mo., Steve Pruitt (and his companion, Cindy) of Nilwood, and Don Pruitt of Greenfield; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a foster brother, Harold Frank.
