She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Lucille Biederman, 80, died at Jersey Community hospital, May 31. Funeral services were held at Jacoby brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev James A. Connett officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born Feb. 23, 1893 in Jersey County the daughter of August & Lena (Spiers) Biederman. Only survivors were nieces and nephews.
John Vahle aka Johan Vahle
John Vahle, deceased, was born in Germany, July 25, 1817. He came to America when quite young, and settled in Maryland, where he remained a number of years, coming from there to Jersey county, Ill. He located in English township, where he purchased 80 acres of land, to which he afterwards added 40 acres. He was married in April 1852 to Mary M. Harris, daughter of Asa and Sarah Harris. They had eight children: Henry, now married to Dora Hooper, and living in English township; Louis, married to Lena Goetten, also living in English township; Anthony; Elizabeth, wife of Peter Dower; Caroline, Frank, and William. Mr. Vahle died March 18, 1873, and was buried in the Armstrong cemetery, in English township. Mrs. Vahle now owns 280 acres of land, with 200 acres in English township, and the remainder on section 10, Jersey township, where she now resides. Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Vahle has carried on the farm successfully, adding to it 160 acres, and making many improvements. The family are members of the Catholic church of Jerseyville.

Surviving him were his Wife, Theresa (Schroeder) Vahle, whom he married may 12, 1948 in Jerseyville; 1 Daughter, Jeanne Dick of Carlsbad, California; 1 son, Thomas A. Vahle of Alton; 4 grandchildren; 1 brother, Lamar Vahle of Jerseyville; and 2 sisters, Charlotte Bray and Marjorie Darr of Jerseyville. The funeral mass was celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic church, Godfrey with Rev. James Hill as celebrant. The Alton VFW conducted full military honors at the graveside at St. Patrick's cemetery, Alton. St. Ambrose church building fund and the American Cancer Society were suggested as memorials. Visitation at Gent Funeral Home, Alton.

Ralph "Tom" Vahle's wife Teresa A. (Schroeder) Vahle's obituary - Teresa A. (Schroeder) Vahle, 81, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, in Kingman. She was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Carrollton to William J. and Sophia (Holmes) Schroeder. She and Ralph W. "Tom" Vahle were married on May 12, 1948, in Jerseyville. He died on Aug. 8, 1982. Before retiring in 1992 and heading west, she worked as a special education teacher's aide for 15 years in the Alton School District. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where she served in the Altar Society, and was a member of St. Patrick's in Carlsbad, Calif.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Frank Dick of Kingman; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas A. and Cheryl Vahle of Bethalto; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Stone of Springfield, Ill; and will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Lena (Behnem) Schroeder; three brothers; Jon, Charles and Christopher Schroeder; and two sisters, Rose Woolsey and Ethel Bruns.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with Father Steve Pohlman officiating. He grew up on the home place and continued to farm there his entire life. He took great pride in his farm, his family and his faith.

Edward C. Vahle's wife Florence T. (Klunk) Vahle's brother Harold Klunk's obituary - Harold Klunk, 94, died suddenly at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at his residence. He was born Oct. 14, 1914, in Michael, one of four children born to the late Mathias and Kathryn (May) Klunk. He was a resident of Jersey County since he was 4, and was a 1933 graduate of Jersey Township High School. He proudly served his country during World War II with the U.S. Air Force, and always considered it a true honor to have been able to serve his country. Farming was the core of his life, and he was engaged in it his entire life. He assumed responsibilities for the family farm near Fieldon, and also worked with the Jersey County Farm Bureau for many years. He was of the Catholic faith and served on the board of MJM Cooperative for many years.
Surviving are two sisters, Florence Vahle of Jerseyville and Helen Klunk of St. Louis; nieces and nephews and their spouses, Pat and Harvey Harmon of Alton, William and Sandy Klunk of Jerseyville, Edward Klunk of Jerseyville, Elaine and Gary Bland of Alton, Donald and Laniece Vahle, James and Wanda Vahle, David and Debbie Vahle, Gary and Tina Vahle, all of Jerseyville, and Gregory Vahle of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond "Shorty" Klunk, and a special brother-in-law, Edward Vahle. He had been employed as a laborer with the city of Jerseyville with the street department. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Jerseyville, serving as its past president, and an avid woodworker. He married the former Theresa M. Vahle on Nov. 5, 1993, at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville and together they have shared nearly 17 years of marriage.

Cunningham, 82, died at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He went to his Lord with his family at his side. He loved his Lord, family and country. He was born March 23, 1926, in Alton to Clifton and Lula (Groppel) Cunningham. He married the former Betty Dabbs on Sept. 24, 1947, in Jerseyville. She survives. He served his country in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946, during World War II in France and Germany with the 82nd Airborne and from 1950 to 1952 with the 18th Combat Engineers during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Fieldon Baptist Church, Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and was a charter member of the World War II Memorial in New Orleans.

Matthew Mathias Darr�was born March 10, 1780 in Botetourt Co., Virginia, and died September 27, 1863 in Jersey Co., Illinois.�He married Jemima Ennis Abt. 1821 in Madison Co., IL, daughter of Jesse Ennis.�She was born 1795 in Warren Co., KY, and died October 27, 1862 in Jersey Co., Illinois. He came west when about sixteen years old.�He settled first in St. Louis, MO, then in Madison Co., IL and finally in Jersey Co., IL. On March, 1 1813, he enlisted as a private in the company of rangers commanded by Captain Samuel Whiteside, at Camp Russell now in Madison Co., at or near where Edwardsville now stands.�He was honorably discharged at Portage de Seu, MO, on the day the treaty was signed. He settled in Jersey County about 1820 on a farm located in Section 22, Township 8, now called English Township.�Matthew Darr married Jemima Ennis and they were the parents of supposedly sixteen children. However, only the names of 10 children are known.�All were members of the Baptist Church.�Darr built two mills on Sugar Creek and a horsepower mill in his yard.�He was the first man to sell an over surplus of provisions in Jersey County. Both Matthew Mathias Darr and his wife Jemima Ennis were buried at Grimes Cemetery, Jersey Co., IL. Born in Jersey County, Ill., April 10, 1919, he was the son of Chester A. and R. Blanche (Schaaf) Darr. He first married Mildred Archer June 8, 1946. He later married Gertrude Droege Lambert May 1, 1971, and she preceded him in death July 17, 2007. He had been a farmer, carpenter and worked in Jerseyville at the John Deere dealership in past years. He also worked in the maintenance department of the Southwestern School District in the late 1960s. He retired from the Morgan County Housing Authority as the maintenance supervisor. He was a member of the Centenary Methodist Church in Jacksonville, the Jacksonville American Legion Post 279 and the Jacksonville Moose Lodge. A World War II Army veteran, he served in the Pacific.
Surviving are loving daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Dean Nixon of Medora. He was the beloved grandfather of Angela Puskar and husband, George; Melissa Moran and husband, Jeff; Dena Harstad and husband, Andrew; Dwayne Nixon and wife, Hollie; and Jana Kirchner, all of Medora. He was the loving great-grandfather to Ramona, Kara and Tara Puskar, Evan and Trevor Moran, Samantha Shelby and Noah Harstad, Andrew, Hayden and Owen Nixon and Aubrey Kirchner, all of Medora. He was also proud great-great-grandfather of Griffin Thornton of Medora. Also surviving are a sister, Geraldine Cox of Jacksonville; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Clyde Darr of Brighton, Loren and Velva Jean Darr and Dale and Nina Darr, all of Medora; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Darr of Arizona and Fern Darr of Medora; and two stepsons, Charles and Charlyn Lambert of Texas and Paul and Penny Lambert of Beardstown. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jon Archer Darr, who died at birth; a sister, Maurietta Stone; three brothers, Dwight, Eldon and Myron Darr; and a half-brother, Everett Dabbs. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and John Curry of Benld; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dwight Bowker of Godfrey and Steve and Glenda Bowker of Edwardsville; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Lela Harding and Doris Pruitt. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a stepbrother, Fred Smith. Matthew Darr, 72, years, 7 months, 29 days, well-known retired farmer of English Township, died August 29, at 5:05 at Jersey Community hospital, where he had been a patient for 16 days. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at First United Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville. Rev. M. Edward Breed officiated and burial was in Grimes cemetery. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A resident of English Township for 45 years, Mr. Darr had served for many years as Township Clerk. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Jersey County Farm Bureau. A son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Darr he was born in Jersey County on December 30, 1894. Surviving Mr. Darr are his wife, Alma Darr of Rural Route 4, Jerseyville, 1 daughter, Mrs. Urban (Mildred) Sinclair, and 1 son, Milton C. Darr, both of Jerseyville, 5 grandchildren, and 3 g-grandchildren, and 1 brother, Gordon Darr of Wood River.

Darr was born Abt. 1873.�He married 1st Cora Fitzgibbons.�He married 2nd Jennie Scoggins November 07, 1895 in Greene Co., IL.�Harry V. Darr had a circus show called the Darr - Greg Show. He traveled with his son, Jack, who sang and danced in the show. Child of Harry Darr and Cora Fitzgibbons was-Jack Darr who married Dorothy Darr. Jack Darr was the author of several books on electronics.

Harry V. Darr's obituary - Harry V. Darr, born 04-06-1876, Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois, died 08-13-1953. Harry V. Darr, 78 years, 4 months, 7 days, died August 13 at Mena, Arkansas, following a prolonged illness. Mr Darr was a son of the late Jackson & Josephine (Russell) Darr and was born April 6, 1876, at Jerseyville. He grew to manhood near the place of his birth and on March 25, 1908 was married to Cora (Fitzgibbons) Darr, at Clatyon, Missouri. Mr Darr was an actor by profession and worked with many shows. He had been associated with show business since he was 18 years old. He later acquired his own show in connection with N. V. Gray and the company was known as the Darr-Gray Stock Company and for many summers played a week's engagement in Jerseyville. Later Mr. Darr served as advance man for the Kelly Miller Circus for 10 years. He went to Mena about 14 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Cora Darr of Mena, 1 son Jack Darr of Mena, 1 granddaughter and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter and 1 sister, Mrs. Walter Malotte of Jerseyville whose death occurred July 24.
