Charles Walter Delp

Charles Walter Delp was a son of the late Andrew & Jane (Goddard) Delp and was born at Grafton, Jersey County, IL on July 18, 1875. Charles Walter Delp's father Andrew Jackson Delp born Dec. 1836, Va; died 11 Feb. 1902, Jersey Co., IL. He married Samantha Jane Frost Goddard in 1862, the daughter of Jared Goddard and Sarah Jane (Frost) Goddard. Samantha Jane (Goddard) Delp is buried in Fieldon IL. Samantha was born in 1845, and died Jan, 21st 1938. She was 92 years old. Andrew Jackson Delp was buried in Hartford Cemetery in Grafton, Jersey County, IL. Andrew Jackson Delp and Samantha Jane (Goddard) Delp had 4 sons-John Delp born 2 Aug. 1863, died 2-10-1936, buried Fieldon Cemetery; Edward Delp born 12 Dec. 1868; Albert Delp born 24 Feb. 1874, died 4-8-1936, buried Fieldon Cemetery; and Charles Walter Delp born 18 July 1875, died 7-8-1955, buried Fieldon Cemetery, married Birdie May Leggett.

Andrew Jackson Delp's father was Daniel Delp Jr. born 1806 Grayson Va, Married Phebe Clayton born 1806 (she was said to be of Iroquois Indian ancestry). Daniel Delp Jr. and Phebe (Clayton) Delp had these children-Louisa Delp born 1845 in Ind., Sarah J. Delp born 1849 Ind., James H. Delp born 1833, Va., Catherine Delp born 1837, Va., John W. Delp born 1839, Va., Josiah Delp born 1841, Ind., married 21 Apr. 1863 Sarah Ann Newell. He is buried at Hancock Co., IL, Andrew Jackson Delp born Dec. 1836, Va; died 11 Feb 1902, Jersey Co., IL, married Samantha Jane Frost Goddard.

Daniel Delp Jr's father Daniel Delp Sr. was born about 1776 in Meklenburg Co. Va and his mother's name is unknown. Daniel Delp Sr. later married Margaret Couch. Daniel Delp Sr. went from Grayson Va to Jasper Indiana pre 1850,and most likely died in Indiana. Daniel Delp Jr. and his wife and children went on to Hancock county IL, and from there they moved about IL and MO for many years following the timber work.

Charles Walter Delp's obituary - Charles Walter Delp, died 07-08-1955. Charles Walter Delp, 80, resident of Fieldon died Friday evening, July 8, at his home in Fieldon. He had been in failing health for sometime and seriously ill for about 3 days before his death, when he suffered a stroke. Services were held Sunday afternoon July 10, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Leonard Todd of Alton, former pastor of Christ Evangelical and Reformed church in Fieldon, officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery.

Mr. Delp was a son of the late Andrew & Jane (Goddard) Delp and was born at Grafton on July 18, 1875. He had been a resident of Fieldon for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Birdie May Delp of Fieldon; 3 sons, Harry H, and Everett L. Delp of Fieldon and Ernest C. Delp of Jerseyville. He also leaves 15 grandchildren and 8 g-grandchildren.

Washington Leggett's wife Margaret Jane (James) Leggett said that she was a cousin to Jesse James the outlaw. Her father was William James. She was born 4-5-1853 in Warren Co. Iowa. She died 12-27-1925 in Jersey County, IL. She is buried in Fieldon Cemetery. Their last name Leggett is sometimes confused with the Legates who live in Jersey County, but they are not related.

(Note: Myrtle (Kraushaar) Delp's father Clarence Kraushaar was my mother Lovie (Kraushaar) Westfall's cousin. He was the son of Joseph and Christina (Martin) Kraushaar. Joseph Kraushaar was a brother to my mother's father Charles Kraushaar).

Myrtle Iva Kraushaar was born 3-13-1922. in Jersey, County, Myrtle Iva (Kraushaar) Delp, 49, of Fieldon died January 18, at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. She had been in ill health for some time. She was a beautician. They lived in Fieldon, IL.

On October 12, 1968, in Jerseyville, he married Gayle (Nelson) Delp, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 Daughters, Melodie Sauerwein of Hazelwood, Missouri, and Susan Corbin of Lawrenceville; and 2 Brothers, Rodney L. Delp and Clarence "Buck" Delp both of Jerseyville. An infant sister preceded him in death. Services were from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Wayne Pendleton officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Memorials may be given to America Cancer Soc.

Everett M. "Bud" Delp's 1st wife Sonia Anne (Lawson) Delp Burch's obituary - Sonia Anne (Lawson) Burch, 70, died at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 19, 1941, in Hardin, one of three children born to Ezekial "Zeke" and Orlena (Silkwood) Lawson. Sonia grew up in the Calhoun area, and graduated in 1959 from Calhoun High School. She had been employed as a cashier for many years at the Shop 'n Save in Jerseyville until retiring in 1993. She first married Everett "Bud" Delp, and together they had two daughters, Melodie & Susan. She later married Jerry Burch Sr., and they had a son, Jerry. Surviving are her two daughters and a son-in-law, Melodie and David Sauerwein of Charleston and Susan Delp of Jerseyville; a son, Jerry Burch of Chicago; a granddaughter, Taylor Sauerwein a student at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston; a brother, Bill Lawson of Quincy. She was preceded in death by both her parents, and a brother, Michael Lawson. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Fieldon United Church of Christ, with Rev. Barbara Alley officiating. Burial will be in the Fieldon Cemetery.

Melodie Anne (Delp) Sauerwein's husband David Sauerwein's father Edwin Frederick Sauerwein's obituary - Edwin Frederick Sauerwein, 83, died at 8:45 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home, after years of declining health. He was born in St. Louis April 23, 1925, one of two sons born to the late Edwin and Edna Marie (Egelhoff) Sauerwein. He married the former Thelma Marie Hagen on Jan. 14, 1949, at the United Church of Christ in Fieldon, and they shared 60 years together. He grew up in Otterville with his parents and brother and attended Grafton High School. In his younger years he was a farmer, truck driver, logger and a carpenter, building several homes in Jerseyville and two post offices in Fieldon and Dow. In 1970, he began operating Sauerwein Lumber Company and oversaw its operations as well as growth until his son, Roger, purchased the business in 1990. A resident of Fieldon since 1964, Edwin was very community-minded and served as the mayor for two terms in the 1970s.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five children and their spouses, Louis and Mary Ellen Sauerwein and Roger Sauerwein, all of Jerseyville, David and Melodie Sauerwein of Charleston, Dennis Sauerwein of Elllisville, Mo., and Linda and Jeff McEvers of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles William Sauerwein. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Fieldon United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Barbara Alley officiating. Burial will be at Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Fieldon United Church of Christ.

Edwin Frederick Sauerwein's wife Thelma Marie (Hagen) Sauerwein's mother Thelma (Seago) Hagen - Thelma Hagen 89 died Friday at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. She was born Nov 30, 1908 in Greene County, the daughter of the late Harry and Emma Edwards Seago. She married Louis John Hagen Dec 29, 1926 in Jerseyville. He passed away Jan 16, 1984. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Thelma Marie and Edwin Sauerwein, Raymond and Sharon Hagen, and Herbert and Janice Hagen all of Fieldon; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and one brother Otis Seago. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 Tuesday at Crawford Holden Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at Wednesday at the Fieldon United Church of Christ where she was a member with Pastor Kurt Simon officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Fieldon United Church of Christ.

She died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at St. Clare's Hospital in Alton.

Rodney L. Delp's wife Jeanalee (Martin) Delp's obituary - Mrs. Jeanalee (Martin) Delp, 64, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at St. Clare's Hospital in Alton. A daughter of Fred Martin Jr. of White Hall and the late Amberlee (Gaddy) Martin, she was born April 8, 1942, in Jerseyville. She married Rodney Delp, on Sept. 7, 1957, in Jerseyville. He died May 20, 2006, at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis. She had been employed as a dietary cook at Jersey Community Hospital for 26 years. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a great cook for the whole family, loved family get-togethers and, to her, everyone was family. She would go out of her way to help anyone who needed her. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Jeanalee (Martin) Delp's father Fred Martin Jr.'s obituary - Fred Martin Jr., 91, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Greene County, to Fred and Lydia (Woolsey) Martin, Sr. He married the former Amber Lee Gaddy on Aug. 30, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo. She died April 25, 1991. He was a retired mechanic for Olin Corp. in East Alton. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Jane and Tom Greaves of Carrollton, and two grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanalee and Rodney Delp, a grandson, several sisters and a brother. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. George Rosales will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Myasthenia Gravis Foundation.

He was born April 6, 1961, in Jerseyville to Rodney LaVerne and Jeanalee (Martin) Delp. He married the former Victoria "Vicki" Lynn DeSherlia on Aug. 22, 1980, in Jerseyville. She survives.

He worked in customer service at Moeller-Reimer Co. in St. Louis. He loved to hunt, fish and ride motorcycles. He coached recreation department baseball for several years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons and a daughter, Bradley Tim and Beth Delp, and Brandon Chad Delp, all of Jerseyville; a granddaughter, Lillian Delp; a sister and her companion, Laurie Reynolds and Mark White, both of Alton; his grandfather Fred Martin Jr. of White Hall; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandmother, Amberlee (Gaddy) Martin; paternal grandparents, Everett Delp and Myrtle (Kraushaar) Delp; father and mother-in-law, James and Elaine (Hazelwonder) DeSherlia. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Carpenter, Jerseyville died at 10:45 pm September 19 at Jersey Community hospital, less than 1 month after his wife Lois M. Bohrman Rue (she died August 21). He was born August 9, 1920 in Jersey County, the son of Charles & Gertrude (Bushnell) Rue, Sr. Rue, was elevator manager for Jersey County Grain Company. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Marilyn) Delp, Mrs. Fred (Linda) Blasa and Mrs. Daniel (Nancy) Green, all of Jerseyville and 1 son Stephen E., at home, and 2 grandchildren, 1 sister Mrs. Helen Baugh, and 1 brother, Robert S. Rue, of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at 1:30 pm September 22, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. A. A. Ledebuhr officiated, with interment in Oak Grove cemetery.

(2) Charles & Birdie (Leggett) Delp's son Ernest Clyde Delp was born on May 28, 1909 in Morgan County, IL. Ernest C. Delp, age 68, of W. Mulberry St. Jerseyville, IL died August 11, 1977 at St. Joseph hospital in Alton, IL. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. He was a retired electrician from Duncan Foundry.

He married Beulah Irene Kraushaar 12-15-1928, the daughter of Clarence and Charlotte May "Lottie" (Atwood) Kraushaar. She was Born in Greene, IL in 1912. She married 1st to Ernest C. Delp and they had 9 children. Beulah married 2nd to Leslie C. Fryman. She passed away on 11 Feb 1997 in Jerseyville, IL. Her burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyvile, IL.

She was born on Nov. 2, 1933, in Nutwood, IL one of six children born to Lawrence and Clara Jane (Webster) Ontis Sr.

He was an electrical supervisor with Grafton Boat Works and Duncan Foundry, retiring in 1985, and a US Army Korean war veteran. Born January 1, 1931, in Fieldon he was a son of Beulah (Kraushaar) Delp Fryman of Jerseyville and the late Ernest Delp. His wife, Joann (Howland) Delp preceded him in death. He married Ollie M. (Ontis) Moy Delp, November 10, 1979, in Jerseyville. She survives.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by 2 daughters, Debra Laird of Hartville, Missouri, and Roberta Delp of Jerseyville; 2 sons, Clinton Delp of Hoisington, Kansas, and Ty Delp of Godfrey; 2 Stepdaughters, Barbara Wong of Godfrey and Teresa Woodruff of Rock Falls; 2 stepsons, David Moy of Godfrey and Kevin Moy stationed at Reese Air Force Base, Lubbock, Texas; 6 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Doris Woolsey and Ruth Britt, both of Jerseyville, Brenda Keefer of Kane and Patti Kreef of Bowling Green, Kentucky; 4 Brothers, Donald Delp of Brighton, Ronald Delp and Ernest "Butch" Delp, both of Jerseyville and Richard Delp of Branson, Missouri; and his step father, Les Fryman of Jerseyville. 1 grandson preceded him in death.

She was born on Nov. 2, 1933, in Nutwood, one of six children born to Lawrence and Clara Jane (Webster) Ontis Sr. Ollie loved being outdoors whenever she could, whether she was fishing, camping or mushroom hunting. She and her husband, Robert, loved to camp with Beaver Dam being one of their favorites, and traveled extensively when they could, enjoying trips to Corpus Christi, Texas, and Arkansas. Her greatest love, however, was being a Mom and later a Grandma. She married Robert Laverne Delp on Nov. 10, 1979, in Jerseyville. He died Jan. 24, 1992.

Surviving are her four children, Barbara Wong and Teresa Woodruff and her husband, Donald, all of Maryville, David Moy of Jerseyville, and Kevin Moy and his wife, Misty, of Marengo, Iowa; four grandchildren, Shawn Woodruff of Edwardsville, Danielle Woodruff of St. Louis, Alexandra Moy Phillips, and her husband, Mark, of Bethalto, and Cassie Moy of Glen Carbon; two great-grandchildren, Willow Emma Phillips and Gavin Woodruff; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Steve Ligus of Nutwood; and a brother, Lawrence "Junior" Ontis of Nutwood. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Velma Martin and Opal White; and a brother, James Ontis. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Cremation will take place after the visitation. Ernest and Beulah (Kraushaar) Delp's son Ronald Ernest Delp's obituary - Ronald Ernest Delp, 75, formerly of Jerseyville, died suddenly at 4:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, in Kimberling City, Mo. He was born in Jerseyville on March 10, 1936, and was the son of the late Ernest and Beulah (Kraushaar) Delp. Ron grew up in Jerseyville and graduated from Jersey Community High School. He was employed as an electrical supervisor at Laclede Steel Company in Alton, and after retiring he enjoyed traveling as a full time RV'er until moving to Kimberling City, Mo., where he was able to enjoy fishing, woodcarving and going out to eat. He first married the former Barbara Ann Britt on Oct. 1, 1954, in Grafton, and together they shared 38 years together and were the parents of two sons before her death on New Year's Day, Jan., 1, 1993. He then married Phyllis Robinson on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1995, in Dow, and they have been blessed to have shared the last 16 years together.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Delp of Kimberling City, Mo.; a granddaughter and her husband, Marcia Nicole and Cody Dowdy of Wood River; a great-grandson, Anthony Dowdy; four stepchildren, Paul Guthrie Jr. of Roodhouse, Vickie Nilssen of St. Louis, Mo., Danny Guthrie of Anaheim, Calif., and Sheila Branham of Jerseyville; eight stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Delp of Edwardsville and Richard Delp of Branson, Mo.; and a sister, Ruth Britt of Dow; along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his first wife, Ronald was preceded in death by his two sons, Brent E. Delp, who died in an automobile accident on Jan. 30, 1981, and Mark A. Delp, who died of cancer on Sept. 17, 2000; two brothers, Robert Delp and Ernest "Butch" Delp; and three sisters, Patricia Reef, Doris Woolsey and Brenda Keffer. He is survived by his former wife, Kathy Daiker, and their daughter, Marcia Nicole Delp, both of Elsah; and his stepmother, Phyllis Delp of Jerseyville. A brother, Brent E. Delp, preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 1981. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. He was born Jan. 31, 1946, in Fieldon, one of nine children born to the late Ernest and Beulah (Kraushaar) Delp. Butch graduated in 1964 from Jersey Community High School, and was employed as a union boilermaker for many years. Later in life he became a self-employed truck driver. He loved to fish and duck hunt, and anyone who knew Butch, knew how me loved fast cars, especially corvettes and power boats.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea and Phillip Ringhausen Jr. of Jerseyville, Wendy and Donald Kallal of Patterson, and Marissa and Jason Ontis of Alton; one granddaughter, Natalie Walsh of Jerseyville; four stepgrandchildren, Ethan Ringhausen, Elyse Ringhausen, Ricky Kallal, and Christopher Kallal; one sister, Ruth Britt of Dow; three brothers, Donald Delp of Brighton, Ronald Delp of Kimberling City, Mo., and Richard Delp of Branson, Mo. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Delp; and three sisters, Patricia Reef, Doris Woolsey, and Brenda Keffer. Lofton was born on the 17th day of May 1826 in Gallatin county, Ill. He is the son of John W. and Mary (Baldwin) Lofton. His father was a native of Georgia, his mother of Kentucky. His father died on the 15th day of Jan. 1877, and his mother on the 9th day of Aug. 1870. John L. was raised on a farm, where he worked for his father until 21 years of age. He then worked around from place to place for about four years. In 1852 he went to Volcano, Cal., where he worked in the gold mines another four years. He then returned home and stayed with his father until about 1860. On the 1st day of April 1866 he was married to Mary Jane (Bentley) Bivens. He and his wife then went to Lynn county, Kan., where they resided three years, and then moved to Crawford county in the same state and remained there five years, his wife dying there on the 30th of Oct. 1874. He then returned home and stayed with his father until the latter's death in 1877. Mr. Lofton is the father of five children: Elizabeth, Emily, Charles W. and John T. (twins), and Mary Jane. His wife's children by her first husband are: Lucy Ann and Henrietta. Mr. Lofton owns 40 acres of land on section 36, Richwoods township, and is an old and respected citizen. He is a member of the A. F. & A. M. and a member of the M.E. church.)

Lloyd Leon Lyles Jr.'s wife Caryl Joyce (Chappell) Lyles's brother Glen Melvin "Mel" Chappell"s obituary - Glen Melvin "Mel" Chappell, 85, Commander, USN (Ret.), passed away on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, in Oceanside after a long illness. Born in Arnold, Neb., March 1, 1923, to Lucy and Charles Chappell, he grew up in Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Roberts Chappell. He joined the Navy in 1942, serving as a bomber pilot during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Shangri-La. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1948 with an engineering degree, worked for Kaiser-Frazer, and then re-entered the Navy in 1951, serving until 1959. Besides his career as a Navy pilot, he was a mechanical engineer in civil service, a hardware store owner and a real estate agent. During retirement, he relished traveling the world with his wife or friends. He was active in the Masonic order, High Twelve, and Associate Guardian of Job's Daughters in Colfax, Calif.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Ralph Evans of Vista, Calif.; his daughter, Mary Chappell of Ventura, Calif.; his grandson, Brent Evans, and family of Charlotte, N.C.; his granddaughter, Erica Evans Battaglia, and family of San Francisco; his three great-granddaughters, Anamaria and Daniela Evans and Violet Battaglia; his brother, Howard Laverne Chappell of Columbia, S.C.; his sisters, Ruth Warner and Caryl Lyles of Jerseyville; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in Vista, Calif. Cremation was handled by the Neptune Society. The family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Kidney Foundation.

She retired from Jersey State Bank as a bank clerk and cashier and was a 50-plus year member of the Jerseyville 1st United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy Moore and Maxine Cummings; two brothers, Howard and Glenn Chappell; and Eloise Walters, who was raised together with Ruth as sisters. (8a) Lloyd Leon Lyles Sr. and Mary (Kraushaar) Lyles's son Gary Neal Lyles, 52, died at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at his home after a courageous and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born July 17, 1952, in Alton, IL. He married the former Barbara Powers on Dec. 19, 1970, in Fieldon. She survives. A lifelong resident of Jersey County, he loved the outdoors, especially those occasions when he was able to spend time with his two sons, whether it be hunting, trout fishing or camping. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs fan and was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Brighton Gun Club. He had been employed for the past 18 years as a machinist at Owens-Illinois machine shop in Godfrey, retiring last year because of his health.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Jennifer Lyles of Jerseyville and Joe and Sandy Lyles of Fieldon; three sisters, Charlotte Dawson of Alton, Linda Cheek of Delhi and Mary Lee Dunham of Fieldon; two brothers, James Thomas Lyles of Atlanta and David Edwards Lyles of Taylorville; his mother-in-law, Priscilla Powers of Fieldon; and three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joanie and Kevin Ruyle and Cathy and RC Beiermann, all of Jerseyville, and Pauline Norris of Hamburg and James Powers of Fieldon. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Lloyd Leon Lyles Jr. and Sherman Frank Lyles, and his father-in-law, John Douglas Powers. In honor of his service during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army, military rites were conducted at the Grimes-Neeley Cemetery in Jerseyville by the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492.

(2) James and Amelia (Geisler) Lyles's son Harry Lyles was born in 1903 in Jersey County, IL. Harry W. Lyles, age 80, died in 1984 at St. Joseph's hospital after a lengthy illness. Burial was at Gunterman cemetery near Fieldon, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. He was a retired carpenter with Local 377 in Granite City. He married the former Edna Devening on 22 July 1922 in Hardin. Born 29 Jun. 1903 in Jersey County, IL. She died at age 78 on Feb. 3 1982 at Jersey Comm. Hospital. Her burial was in the Gunterman cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. She was a daughter of James and Hester (Mefford) Devening.

Harry and Edna Devening Lyles are survived by four sons, Dick Lyles, Jim Lyles, and Bob Lyles, all of Jerseyville and Herb Lyles of Texas; nine daughters, Ruby Williams, Pete Jones, Lillie Wilson married Vernon B. Wilson 12-20-1947, Marcella "Mickey" Wallace married Clyde V. Wallace 2-4-1953, Nora Jones, Edith Dugger, all of Jerseyville, Essie Heitzig of Fieldon, Cora Hadlock of Colorado and Janice O'brien of Itasca.

(1a) Harry and Edna (Devening) Lyles were preceded in death by their son L. C. Lyles who died Oct. 20, 1979: L. C. Lyles, 42, of Baraboo, Wis. was killed instantly about midnight 20 Oct. when he was stuck by a car while crossing an intersection in Baraboo. He was thrown into the path of an oncoming car. He was born 11 Dec. 1936 in Jersey county, the son of Harry and Edna Devening Lyles of Jerseyville.

His survivors include his wife, the former Gloria Ann Worlik whom he married in 1967; one son, Craig Lyles, and a daughter, Holly Ann; nine sisters, Mrs. Ruby Williams, Mrs. Frank Jones, Mrs. Lillie Wilson, Mrs. Marcella "Mickey" Wallace, Mrs. Nora Jones and Mrs. Edith Dugger, Jerseyville; Mrs Essie Heitzig of Fieldon, Mrs. Cora Hadlock of Kremmling, Colo. And Mrs. Janice Ipplotio of Springfield; four brothers, Harry "Dick" Lyles, James L. Lyles and Robert Lyles of Jerseyville and Herbert Lyles of Houston, Tex. His burial was in Baraboo.

(2a) Harry and Edna (Devening) Lyles's son - Herbert B. Lyles, 68, formerly of Jerseyville, died suddenly Sunday, March 26, 2006, in Houston. Born Feb. 9, 1938, in Jersey County, he was one of 16 children of Harry and Edna (Devening) Lyles. He married the former Barbara Winkowski in 1959, and they had two sons before her death in 1966. He then married the former Lois Brooks, and they had three children before their eventual divorce.

He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Rickie and Vickie Lyles, David Lyles and Jason and Carla Lyles, all of Houston; one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Tracy Covington of Arenzville; a son-in-law, Jeff Roberts of Brighton; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; three brothers, Harry "Dick" Lyles of Jerseyville, James Lyles of Kane and Robert Lyles of Jerseyville; eight sisters, Essie Heitzig of Fieldon, Hazel "Pete" Jones, Lillie Wilson and Mickey Wallace, all of Jerseyville, Cora Hadlock of Casper, Wyo., Nora Jones and Edie Dugger, both of Jerseyville, and Janice O'Brien of Osage Beach, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dawn (Lyles) Roberts, on Feb. 20, 2003; a son, Richard Seymour, on April 9, 1999; one brother, Lloyd Lyles; and three sisters, Ruby Williams, Dottie Lyles and Violet Lyles. His body has been cremated. Memorial visitation was from noon until services at 1 p.m. Friday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Father William Hembrow officiated. Burial of his cremains took place at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, with Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military rites.

(Lyles) Williams's had 6 children-Maurice B. "MB" Williams, Merle L. Williams, Dennis D. Williams, Don E. Williams, Gil L. Williams, and Janet Williams who died in infancy.

Ruby I. (Lyles) Williams's husband Maurice B. Williams's obituary - Maurice B. Williams, 89, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. Born March 7, 1918, in Fieldon, he served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 until 1946. He was a self-employed truck driver for 61 years, served as a school trustee since 1964 and served on the Jerseyville Mutual Insurance board for 21 years. He was a member of Fieldon United Church of Christ since 1926 and Fieldon Masonic Lodge 592. He married Ruby I. Lyles on July 26, 1941, in Elsberry, Mo. She died in August 1994. He and Katherine Bruns-Booth were married on Jan. 24, 1997, in Roxana. She survives.

Also surviving are five sons and four daughters-in-law, Maurice B. "MB" and Karen Williams of Carrollton, Merle L. Williams of Fieldon, Dennis D. and Vicki Williams, Don E. and Donna Williams and Gil L. and Karen Williams, all of Jerseyville; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lela Siedlar of East Alton and Emma Berkel of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two adopted nieces, Phyllis Frazer and Bernice Guilander. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Janet Williams; a sister, Imogene Tindall; and grandparents, Oscar and Emmaline Williams.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with Masonic funeral rites by Fieldon Lodge 592 at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fieldon United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Barbara Alley officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 492 of Jerseyville, will be at Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Fieldon United Church of Christ.

(1aa) Maurice and Ruby I. (Lyles) Williams's son Don E. Williams's obituary - Don E. Williams, 60, died at 10:37 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at his residence after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born at home in Fieldon on July 22, 1951, and was the son of the late Maurice and Ruby I. (Lyles) Williams. He attended Jersey Community High School and was a truck driver his entire life, owning and operating Don Williams Trucking for many years. He enjoyed his family, spoiling his grandchildren, and spending time and fishing at their cabin at Carlinville Lake. He married the former Donna Jean Isringhausen on Dec. 5, 1970, at the home of her parents in Jerseyville, and they have shared 40 years together.

In addition to his wife, Donna, surviving are three children and their spouses, Tammy and Scott Turman of Jerseyville, Crisha and Matt Dunham of Fieldon, and Tim Williams of Jerseyville; five grandchildren, Austin, Jamie and Connor Turman, Brent and Holly Dunham; four brothers and sisters- in-law, Maurice "M.B." Williams, and his wife, Karen Wagner of Carrollton, Merle Williams of Fieldon, Dennis and Vicki Williams, and Gil and Karen Williams, all of Jerseyville; and two sisters-in-law, Linda Probst of Kane and Alice Hemphill and her husband, Darrell of Lincoln, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Janet I. Williams; and a brother-in-law, John Probst. She was born May 14, 1933, in Fieldon, the eighth child of 17 born to Harry W. and Edna (Devening) Lyles. She was employed as a cook on the barge lines for a number of years. She loved to fish, play bingo and winter in Lake Placid, Fla., with her dear friend and companion, Edward McKay, who is deceased.

She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Vickey Bennett of Alton, Valerie Shea of Fieldon and Vaunda and Terry Richardson of Jerseyville; a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Tracey Wallace of Kampsville; five grandchildren and their spouses, Marcie and Dan Snyder of Hardin, Craig Hansen of Alton, Louis and Nicki Richardson of Eureka Springs, Ark., Cameron Wallace of Alton and Brooke Wallace of Kampsville; three great-grandchildren, Kelcey and James Snyder and James Lyles of Kane; and eight sisters, Essie Heitzig of Fieldon, Hazel "Pete" Jones of Jerseyville, Mae Vickers of Satsuma, Calif., Lillie Wilson of Jerseyville, Cora Hadlock of Casper, Wyo., Nora Jones and Edie Dugger, both of Jerseyville, and Jani O'Brien of Lake Ozark, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ruby Williams and infants Violet and Dottie Lyles; two brothers, Herbert Lyles and L.C. Lyles; and an adopted brother, Harry Lee Lyles. She died at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hardin. Her burial was at Piasa City Cemetery. She married Jasper Cummings 1-25-1934 in Jersey County, IL. They had two sons, William and Richard Cummings and two daughters, Judy (Cummings) Decker, and infant Amelia Lyles. She later married Albert F. Krueger 4-30-1975. He died 9-22-1985 at age 74. He was married before to Freda Hamilton whom he married 9-12-1936. She died 9-22 1962. Albert Krueger and his first wife Freda (Hamilton) Krueger had 5 children-Donald Krueger of Waterloo, IL, Marcella Marie McCallister of Pana, IL, Phyllis Ann Long of Alton, IL, Karen Linn Krueger of Alton, IL, and Cristal Ourdehner of Matteson, IL. Albert Krueger is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL.

James T. and Amelia (Geisler) Lyles's daughter Fern Pauline (Lyles) Cummings Krueger's obituary - Fern Pauline (Lyles) Cummings Krueger, 90, died at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hardin. She was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Fidelity to James T. and Amelia (Geisler) Lyles. She married Jasper Cummings on Jan. 25, 1934. He died April 6, 1971. She married Albert Krueger on April 30, 1975. He died Sept. 28, 1985. The retired salesperson and bookkeeper was a member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Hardin and the Ladies of the Moose in Jerseyville.

Survivors include one stepson, Donald Krueger of Waterloo; four stepdaughters, Marcella McCallister of Pana, Ill., Phyllis Long of East Alton, Karen Krueger of Alton and Cristal Dehner of Jerseyville; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Taviner of Hardin. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, William and Richard Cummings; two daughters, Judy Decker, and infant Amelia Lyles; three brothers, Harry, James and Lloyd Lyles; and three sisters, Adline McCoy, Genevieve Pontero and Annabelle Keirle. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until an 11 a.m. funeral Mass Friday at St. Norbert's Catholic Church. Father Bill Kessler will officiate. Burial will be at Piasa City Cemetery. "Jean" Taviner, 94, died at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hardin. She was born Feb. 4, 1914, in Shipman, to James and Amelia (Geisler) Lyles. She married Ralph Taviner on Nov. 9, 1931, in Carrollton. He died Feb. 6, 1988. She was owner and operator of the family business, Taviner's Store, for 35 years. She was a homemaker who was very family-oriented and loved to prepare family dinners. She was a music lover and especially enjoyed big band music. She was a member of the Hardin Presbyterian Church and the Calhoun Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star 990 in Hardin.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Millie Taviner of Hardin and Pat and Naomi Taviner of Springfield, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jeff and Mike Taviner of Hardin and Diane Taviner of Lisle, Ill.; four great-granddaughters; two great-great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Kenneth Taviner; three brothers, Harry, James and Lloyd Lyles; and four sisters, Adelaide Lyles, Genevieve Pontero, Fern Krueger and Annabelle Keirle. (1a) Genevieve (Lyles) Hilyard Pontero's daughter Ramona Jean (Hilyard) Abbott's obituary - Ramona Jean Abbott, 78, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Aug. 16, 1929, in Alton to Harry M. and Genevieve (Lyles) Hilyard. She married Alonzo "Jack" Abbott on Jan. 17, 1977, in Godfrey. He survives. Raised in Bunker Hill, she attended school there for several years before graduating from Pearl High School in 1947. She began working in the composing/layout room for Cordes Printing in St. Louis and later worked for the Suburban Journal in Alton and Phillips Garage in Jerseyville.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Linda (Gansz) Douglas of Jerseyville and Beverly (Gansz) Simpson of Bunker Hill; four stepchildren and their spouses, Sandra and Aaron Hayes of Kane, Jeffrey and Carol Abbott of Jerseyville, Steven Abbott of Kane and Bruce and Jamie Abbott of Jerseyville; five grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Bonnie Rhodes of Williamsville, Ill. She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Genevieve and Louis Pontero; her father; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Gettings; and two sisters, Patsy Lane and Connie Watson.
