Charles Edward Schaaf

Charles Edward Schaaf was a son of Henry Schaaf born 10-15-1825 in Hanover, Germany, died 2-20-1897 in Jersey Co., IL, and Mary (Niemeyer) Schaaf. Charles Edward Schaaf was born 1-12-1850 in Jersey County, IL. He died 1-26-1923 in Jersey County, IL. He is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. His parents Henry and Mary (Niemeyer) Schaaf were married 3-27-1849 in Jersey Co., IL, and are both buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. Charles Edward Schaaf married Laura Jane Mathews 3-14-1873 in Jersey County, IL. She died in 1909 at age 53. She is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. Charles Edward Schaaf's father Henry Schaaf was a son of Charles (Karl) Schaaf born abt. 1794 in Hanover, Germany, and Charlotte Augusta (Busch) Schaaf born abt. 1795 in Hanover, Germany, and both died bet. 1860 and 1870, on their farm south of Fieldon, in Jersey County, IL, and were buried on their farm on top of a hill between two cedar trees.

(1) Charles and Laura (Mathews) Schaaf's son Henry Isom Schaaf's obituary - Henry Isom Schaaf, Fieldon, born 5-23-1884 died 7-19-1961. He was 77yrs, 3mos., 26 days, at the time of his death. He was the son of Charles and Laura Mathews Schaaf. Survived by his wife Adah Schaaf 2 sons Fred Schaaf of Jerseyville, Julius Schaaf of Fieldon,; 6 daughters Sophia Miller, Jerseyville, Dorothy Mitchell of Winchester, Hazel Thompson of Kane Alberta Evans, Marjorie Dilks and Rosemary Schaaf of Fieldon. 2 brothers Charles E. of Jerseyville and Leslie Schaaf of Fieldon. 1 sister Adelia Young of Jerseyville. 1 son preceded him in death - Henry. Interment - Fieldon Cem.

He is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. He married Adah Charlotte Young. She was born 8-7-1884, and died 3-4-1956 in Jersey County, IL. She is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. Henry Isom and Adah (Young) Schaaf had 9 children-Rosemary Schaaf, Julius "Dude" Schaaf, Hazel Schaaf, Lelia Margie Schaaf, Dorothy Schaaf, Alberta Schaaf, Sophia Schaaf, Henry Schaaf, and Fred Schaaf.

(1a) Henry Isom and Adah (Young) Schaaf's daughter - Rosemary Schaaf, 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis County. Born in Fieldon on July 30, 1929, she was the daughter of Isom Henry and Ada Charlotte (Young) Schaaf. A lifelong resident of Fieldon, she was employed at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville and the Fieldon Grade School. She then began operating the Farmers Market in Fieldon alongside Warren Fester. The two maintained a loving companionship for 30 years before his death on Dec. 25, 2002.

She is survived by her only surviving sister, Hazel Thompson of Kane; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her companion, Warren, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Henry, Julius "Dude" and Fred Schaaf; and four sisters, Sophia Miller, Dorothy Mitchell, Alberta Evans and Lelia "Marge" Dilks. Visitation were held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Randy Cartwright conducted funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial was at Fieldon Cemetery.

(2a) Henry Isom and Adah (Young) Schaaf's son Julius "Dude" Schaaf was born in 1916 in Jersey County, IL. He died in 1968 in Jersey County, IL. His burial was at Fieldon Cemetery. He married Cora Alice Ford. She was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Kane, the daughter of Louis and Nettie (Dunham) Ford. She died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. Her burial was at Mount Gilead Cemetery in Carrollton, Greene County, IL. Julius "Dude" Schaaf and Cora Alice Ford divorced and she remarried to Glenn G. Varble Dec. 18, 1975, in Alton. Children of Julius "Dude" Schaaf and Cora Alice Ford were-Judy Schaaf, Carol Schaaf, Russell Schaaf, Robert Schaaf, Kenneth W. "Bill" Schaaf, Charles Schaaf, Donald Schaaf, Jim Schaaf, and two children who died in infancy.

Julius "Dude" Schaaf's wife Cora Alice (Ford) Schaaf Varble's obituary - Cora Alice Schaaf Varble, 86, died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Kane, the daughter of Louis and Nettie (Dunham) Ford. She married Julius "Dude" Schaaf of Fieldon and together they were the parents of 10 children before their eventual divorce. After the divorce, she operated a restaurant in Fieldon and was a nurse's aide at Garnet's Chateau. She met Glen G. Varble and the two later married on Dec. 18, 1975, in Alton. After their marriage, they moved to Pearl, where she began working at Brown Shoe Company and later as a nurse's aide at the Community Care Center, both in Pittsfield. Her husband's declining health forced her to retire and he passed away Jan. 15, 1994, after 18 happy years of a happy marriage.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Joe Roth of Fieldon and Carol and Jeff Barnett of Mount Sterling, Ill.; six sons and daughters-in-law, Russell Schaaf of Cottage Hills, Robert and Carolyn Schaaf and Kenneth W. "Bill" and Alice Schaaf, all of Jerseyville, Charles and Edna Schaaf, Donald and Barbara Schaaf, all of Fieldon, and Jim and Marcia Schaaf of Griggsville, Ill.; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William "Woody" Ford of Kane and Wilbert Ford of Springfield, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant children; a daughter-in-law, Marge Schaaf; three brothers, Henry, Ernest and Winslin Ford; and two sisters, Frances Wilson and Edna Pickett. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Barbara Alley will conduct services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3. Burial will be at Mount Gilead Cemetery in Carrollton. Memorials may be given to the Fieldon United Church of Christ or to the Blessing Hospice of Greene County.

(1aa) Julius "Dude" Schaaf and Alice (Ford) Schaaf Varble's son Russell L. Schaaf's obituary - Russell L. Schaaf, 72, passed away at 12:17 a.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Robings Manor in Brighton. Born May 24, 1938, in Jerseyville, he was a son of Julius Schaaf and Alice (Ford) Schaaf Varble. His wife, the former Margaret Seaburn, preceded him in death Feb. 4, 2001. He worked as a truck driver for his son at Michael Schaaf Trucking and also had driven for Hoops Trucking. Mr. Schaaf was a shipboard boilerman fireman in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957.

He is survived by three daughters, Gail (Roger) Ambrose of Kokomo, Ind., Lisa (Daniel) Sackmann of Jerseyville and Sonya Smith of South Roxana; three sons, David (Carol) Schaaf of St. Peters, Mo., Russell (Lisa) Schaaf Jr. of Toledo, Ohio, and Michael (Kristi) Schaaf of Findlay, Ohio; his grandchildren, Allison Cox, Debra, Erin and Brittany Sackmann, Jonathon Schaaf, Matthew Seets, Christopher and Kassandra Smith, Jessica, Jacob, Joshua, David, Cole and Grace Schaaf; two sisters, Judy (Jerry) Roth of Fieldon and Caroline (Jeff) Barnett of Mount Sterling, Ill.; five brothers, Donald (Barb) Schaaf and Charlie (Edna) Schaaf, all of Fieldon, William (Alice) Schaaf and Robert (Carolyn) Schaaf, all of Jerseyville, and James (Marcia) Schaaf of Griggsville, Ill. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Jennifer Schaaf. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Paynic Home for Funerals in East Alton, where Pastor Rob Ellard will officiate services at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 21. Alton VFW Post 1308 will perform military rites at the funeral home after the funeral service. Committal services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Wood County Memory Garden in Bowling Green, Ohio. Memorials may be given to the charity of one's choice.

Cora Alice (Ford) Schaaf Varble's second husband Glenn G. Varble's obituary - Glenn G. Varble, 81, of Pearl died Saturday morning, Jan. 15 , 1994, at his residence. Born June 5, 1912, in Woodville, he was a son of Leonard and Tina Schudel Varble. He married Bernita M. Cummings Feb. 5, 1936. She died April 13, 1975. He later married Cora Alice Schaaf Dec. 18, 1975. She Survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Carolyn Karben of Vancouver, Wash., and Glenda Gibbens of Eugene, Ore.; three sons, Adrian Varble of Eldred, Dale Varble of Reno, Nev.; two step-daughter, Carol Barnett of Mt. Sterling and Judy Roth of Fieldon, Bob Schaaf of Jerseyville, Charlie and Bill Schaaf, both of Fieldon and Jim Schaaf of Meredosia; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many stepgrandchildren; a sister, Edna Bailey of Mesa, Ariz.; and a brother, Delbert Varble of Alton. Mr Varble was a lifelong farmer in Greene and later Pike County. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Memorials are suggested to the Glenn Varble Memorial Fund in care of Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton.

Cora Alice (Ford) Schaaf Varble's brother William W. "Woody" Ford's obituary - William W. "Woody" Ford, 89, died and went home to be with the Lord at 6 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. He was born in Kane on Aug. 14, 1919, the son of the late Louis and Nettie (Dunham) Ford. He married the former Wilma Jean "Jeanie" Strebel on Aug. 25, 1956, in Mississippi and they shared 34 years together before her death on March 30, 1991. He later married the former Shirley Franklin on Sept. 8, 2005, in Pittsfield. She survives. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was a truck driver for Gorma Brothers Ready Mix in Jerseyville for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and his wife, Wilbert Gene and Dea Ford of Jerseyville; three stepchildren and their spouses, Sherrie and Paul Edgell of Kane, Terry and Paula Gust of Edwardsville and Michele Morris of Kane; several grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; and a brother, Wilbert Ford of Springfield, Ill. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Frances Wilson, Alice Schaaf Varble, Edna Pickett Gilbert and a twin sister in infancy; three brothers, Earnest, Henry and Winslin Ford; and a stepson, Gerald Gust. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until services at noon Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. Martin Smay will officiate. Burial will be at Kane Cemetery with Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites. Memorials may be made to the cemetery or the Open Door House of Praise in Jerseyville.

(3a) Henry Isom and Adah (Young) Schaaf's daughter - Hazel (Schaaf) Thompson, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. Born Sept. 20, 1918, in Jersey County, she was one of nine children of Isom and Ada C. (Young) Schaaf. She married Russell Thompson on Nov. 6, 1943, and the two lived in Kane for many years, where he was employed on the Kane Croft Farm. They shared 61 years together before his death on Dec. 15, 2004. Coming from a large, close-knit family, she learned early on what hard work, dedication and loyalty to family meant. She was employed as a cook for many years at Hanks Cafe in Kane and later became a cook at the Kane Grade School for 16 years before retiring.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley Jean Johnson of Alton and Verna Kay and Perry Ontis of Fieldon; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Doris Thompson of Fieldon; a stepson, Russell Edward Thompson of Wood River; and numerous grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Edna Marie Farris, in December 1968; three grandsons, Carl Russell Johnson, Billy Joe Farris and Michael Farris; two great-grandsons, Scott Johnson and Matthew Crull; three brothers, Fred, Julius "Dude" and Henry Schaaf; and five sisters, Sophia Miller, Lelia Dilks, Alberta Evans, Dorothy Mitchell and Rosemary Schaaf. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Chuck Keene, of Kane Baptist Church, will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday. Hazel Schaaf was born 9-20-1918 in Jersey County, IL. She died 2-6-2007 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville, IL. Her burial was at Kane Cemetery in Jersey County, IL. She first married James D. Maple 3-22-1936. She later married Russell Oliver Thompson 11-6-1943. Her husband - Russell Oliver Thompson, 85, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was born Sept. 18, 1919, in Jersey County, one of 11 children of Logan and Viola (Bowers) Thompson. He married the former Hazel Schaaf on Nov. 6, 1943, in Jerseyville. She survives. A resident of Kane for many years, he was employed at the Kane Croft Farm for 21 years until the farm was sold and then began working as a mechanic and driver for Krause and Son Implement Co. in Jerseyville, retiring in 1982, after dedicating 15 years to the business. He was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695 and enjoyed their many activities and meals that he and his wife were able to take part in and was especially proud of his yard and garden.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Russell Edward Thompson of Wood River and Raymond and Doris Thompson of Fieldon; a daughter and son-in-law, Verna Kay and Perry Ontis of Fieldon; a stepdaughter, Shirley Jean Johnson of Roxana; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 19 stepgreat-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-great- grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Brown of California and Cecile Russell of Godfrey; and two brothers, Herman "Pete" Thompson of Tacoma, Wash., and Donald Thompson of Granite City. Preceding him in death were his parents; a stepdaughter, Edna Mae Farris; three stepgrandchildren, Carl Russell Johnson, Billy Joe Farris and Michael Farris; a sister, Hazel Mae Thompson; and five brothers, Raymond, James, Logan Jr., Charles William and Truman Thompson. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Jon Lobos conducted funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial was at Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695.

(4a) Henry Isom and Adah (Young) Schaaf's daughter Lelia Margie Schaaf was born in Jersey County, IL. She is deceased. She married Owen Leroy Dilks 1-24-1948 in Jersey County, IL. Her husband Owen Leroy Dilks - Died 06-23-1980. Owen Leroy Dilks, 56, of Jerseyville died June 23, at Jersey Community hospital. Services were conducted at Healing Waters Temple by Rev Gordon Dean Cox. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery. He was a retired logger, born January 13, 1924 in Rosedale, a son of the late Jessie &I Mattie (Evans) Dilks and was a WWII army veteran.

His survivors are his wife, Lelia Margie (Schaaf) Dilks; 5 sons, Ronald, Rodney, Randy, Kevin and Billy Jo, all of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Connie Lott of Jerseyville; 6 grandchildren; 2 brothers, John and Alvin Dilks of Jerseyville and 2 sisters, Uldine Humiston, Jerseyville and Mildred Short, Warrenton, Missouri. Graveside service was held by American Legion post. Memorials may be given to Cancer Soc.

(5a) Henry Isom and Adah (Young) Schaaf's daughter - Dorothy (Schaaf) Mitchell, 79, died Monday, September 23, 1991, at her daughter's home in winchester. Born on July 29, 1912, in Fieldon, she was a daughter of the Late Isom and Ada (Young) Schaaf. She married Charles Mitchell on February 15, 1931 in Jerseyville. He died December 27, 1974.

Surviving are five sons, Charles Mitchell of Alsey, L. C. Mitchell of Virginia Illinois, George Mitchell of Silvis and Thomas and Clyde Mitchell, both of Murrayville; a daughter, Reba Witwer of Sinchester; 16 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; a brother, Fred Schaaf of Jerseyville; and four sisters, Rosemary Schaaf of Fieldon, Hazel Thompson of Kane and Sophia Miller and Margie Dilks, both of Jerseyville. Two brothers, Henry and Julius Schaaf, and a sister, Alberta Evans, preceded her in death.

Visitation was from 1:30 to 9 pm Wednesday at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, where services were at 11 am Thursday. The Rev. Phillip Dunn officiated. Burial was in Murrayville cemetery.

(6a) Henry Isom and Adah (Young) Schaaf's daughter - Alberta M. (Schaaf) Evans, 63, died at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug 14, 1987 at St Anthony's Hospital in Alton. She was born in Fieldon, a daughter of the late Isom and Adah Young Schaaf. On Dec 8, 1945 in Jerseyville she married Ward Evans and he survives.

Also surviving are a son David Evans of Jerseyville; two grandchildren; a brother, Charles Schaaf of Jerseyville and five sisters Sophia Miller and Margie Dilks of Jerseyville, Dorothy Mitchell of Winchester, Hazel Thompson of Kane and Rosemary Schaaf of Fieldon. Services were conducted at 10 a.m. today at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Hone in Jerseyville. The Rev. Jean Erb officiated. Burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

(7a) Henry Isom and Adah (Young) Schaaf's daughter Sophia Schaaf was born in Jersey County, IL. She is deceased. She married Roy U. Miller. Her husband Roy U. Miller - Died 06-12-1975. Final rites for Roy U. Miller, 76, of 109 Lincoln, Jerseyville were conducted at 10 o'clock June 12, at Jacoby Funeral Home with the Rev. Leonard Todd officiating. He was pronounced dead on arrival at 7:55 am on June 10 at Jersey Community Hospital. Interment was in the Fieldon cemetery. A carpenter, he was born September 12, 1898 in Harrisburg, and was a World War II veteran. Miller was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Sophia Schaaf Miller; and a daughter, Mrs. Dale (Doris) Dickerson of East Alton; one grandchild.

Charles and Laura (Mathews) Schaaf's son Leslie James Schaaf married Ruth Levi, a daughter of Harry and Alma (Suddeth) Levi. She was born in 1894, and died in 1985. Her burial was in the Fieldon cemetery. Their children - Leo Keith "Pete" Schaaf resides in Bunker Hill, IL, Bert Schaaf married Alma Ellen Flatt 11-16-1941, daughter of Raymond and Eva Ellen (Reynolds) Flatt, and they reside in Fieldon, IL, and Opal (Schaaf) Powell resides in Jerseyville. Their other children, William C. Schaaf, Agnes (Schaaf) Isringhausen, Frank Schaaf, and Walter L. "Bud" Schaaf, and Imogene (Schaaf) Cavanaugh are deceased.

Legate, a daughter of Harry and Alma (Suddeth) Legate. She is deceased. She was born 11-21-1918, and died 7-2-2007. Her burial was in the Fieldon cemetery. William and Cora (Legate) Schaaf had 2 daughters-Edna Schaaf and Joann B. Schaaf.

William C. Schaaf's wife Cora A. (Legate) Schaaf's obituary - Cora A. (Legate) Schaaf, died July 2, 2007 - 7:53PM. Cora A. Schaaf, 88, died at 12:44 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2007, at Willow Rose Rehabilitation and Health Care in Jerseyville. She was born in Grafton on Nov. 21, 1918, one of nine children born to the late Harry and Alma (Suddeth) Legate. She married William C. Schaaf on Dec. 2, 1936, in Jerseyville, and the two farmed for many years before moving into Jerseyville in 1961. She then began working at several restaurants, including Walkers Five and Dime and Sav-Mor. The couple shared nearly 57 years together before his death on July 13, 1993.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Edna and Edgar Short and Joann and Paul Cunningham, all of Jerseyville; three grandchildren and their spouses, Martin and Cathy Short, Terry and Carolyn Short and Cynthia Stamper, all of Jerseyville; great-grandchildren, Eric, Zachary, Travis and Faith Short and Corey and Codey Stamper; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was an infant son; a granddaughter, Denise Cunningham; a grandson-in-law, Avery "Curt" Stamper; and eight siblings. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Doug Haynes will officiate. Burial will be at Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Church of the Nazarene in Jerseyville.

Suddeth, son of Henry and Panelia Suddeth, was born in Henry County, Ky., June 26, 1824. When James was two years of age his father died, leaving a wife and three sons - - Henry, William and James. The subject of this sketch resided with his mother until his marriage to Amanda Dawkins, who was born in February, 1832. After his marriage he removed to Lincoln County, Mo., and there followed the trade of wagon-making ten years. In 1846 he enlisted in the Mexican War, in a cavalry regiment commanded by Colonel Marshall. He took part in the battle of Buena Vista, after which Marshall's men were discharged. He then volunteered under Gen. John S. Williams, and participated in engagements at Cerro Gordo and the City of Mexico. At the breaking out of the Rebellion he enlisted in the 2nd Missouri Reg., and served four years. He took part in the battles of Farmington and Iuka, in Mississippi; Drywood, Wilson's Creek, Elkhorn and Lexington, in Missouri, battles of the Wilderness, Petersburg and Richmond, where he witnessed the surrender of Lee. Mr. and Mrs. Suddeth have eight children. He owns 30 acres of land, which is mostly tillable. He is, in politics, a democrat.

The death of Mr. Legate occurred at eleven-thirty o'clock Sat. morning at the Wood River Comm. Hospital where he had been a patient for a short time. He was a retired farmer. She was born June 4, 1910 in Jersey County, a daughter of Harry and Alma Suddeth Legate. She is survived by her husband, Louis H. Antrobus whom she married Jan. 22, 1976. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Geneva) Burklow of Jerseyville and Mrs. Floyd (Thelma) Shaw of Moro; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard Legate of El Paso, Texas and Walter Legate of San Diego, Calif. Her first husband, Charles Edward Crull, died in September, 1975 and a son, Charles Orville Crull, died in 1934. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12. Paul and Joann (Schaaf) Cunningham's daughter Denise Lavonne Cunningham died -04-1971 - Denise Lavonne Cunningham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Maurice Cunningham of 107 Circle Drive, Jerseyville, died at seven-twenty o'clock Thursday morning at Children's Hospital in St. Louis. Her death occurred on her ninth birthday anniversary. Denise was stricken with leukemia at the age of three and one-half years and for the past few years she has been hospitalized on several occasions. When her health permitted she attended Holy Ghost parochial school and despite her frailty she was present, in a wheelchair, for the ground breaking of the new Holy Ghost Church last fall.

The Mass of the Angels was read for the funeral of Denise at her parish church Monday morning at nine-thirty o'clock with Father Robert Heintz, celebrant. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation hours were held on Saturday evening and Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where the Rosary was recited at eight o'clock Sunday night. In addition to her parents, Denise is survived by one sister, Cynthia Yvonne; her maternal grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. William C. Schaaf of Jerseyville and her great grandparents, Mrs. Ruth Schaaf of Jerseyville and Mrs. and Mrs. Harry M. Legate of East Alton.

Isringhausen later married the former Virginia Winchell on Dec. 23, 1944, in Fieldon. Floyd and Virginia (Winchell) Isringhausen raised five children, Judy Isringhausen, Susan Isringhausen, Roger Isringhausen, Gary Isringhausen, and Bruce Isringhausen, and shared 36 years together before she died Feb. 4, 1981. He later married the former Mary Jane Mountain on Sept. 5, 1981, in Jerseyville. Floyd G. Isringhausen was born in Fieldon March 13, 1922, one of eight children born to the late Louis and Florence (Claflin) Isringhausen. The obituary of Floyd G. Isringhausen - Floyd G. Isringhausen, 86, died at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a period of declining health. He was born in Fieldon March 13, 1922, one of eight children born to the late Louis and Florence (Claflin) Isringhausen. He married the former Agnes Schaaf and they were married for a short time before she died in childbirth, along with their only child, Floyd Jr. He later married the former Virginia Winchell on Dec. 23, 1944, in Fieldon. They raised five children and shared 36 years together before she died Feb. 4, 1981. He married the former Mary Jane Mountain on Sept. 5, 1981, in Jerseyville and they have been blessed with 27 years together. He was a Jersey County resident his entire life, working in agriculture. He operated a livestock and grain farm near Fieldon for many years. Active in his community, he was a member of the Fieldon United Church of Christ, the Elks Lodge 954 and Moose Lodge, both of Jerseyville, and the Fieldon Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his wife, surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy and Ted Kuebrich and Susan Isringhausen, all of Jerseyville; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Roger and Linda and Gary Isringhausen, all of Fieldon, and Bruce Isringhausen of Godfrey; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby Skinner of Jerseyville. Besides his parents, wives and son, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Kuebrich, on Feb. 11, 2004, a sister, Hazel Gettings, and five brothers, Marvin, Clyde, Wayne, Pearl and Glenn Isringhausen. Visitation was Friday, Dec. 26, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, and will continue from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Fieldon United Church of Christ. The Rev. Isringhausen's brother Marvin Earl Isringhausen's daughter Nellie Margaret (Isringhausen) Winters's obituary - Nellie Margaret (Isringhausen) Winters, 77, was born at home in Richwood Township, Jersey County, on April 9, 1933, to the late Marvin Earl and Nellie Marguerite (Walz) Isringhausen. She died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at her home in Jerseyville, after a brief illness. She married Airman 1st Class Paul Wayne Winters of Jerseyville Aug. 10, 1952, at Fieldon Evangelical and Reformed Church in Fieldon. They celebrated 43 years of marriage before his death on Oct. 15, 1995. She was a member of the Fieldon Evangelical and Reformed Church, St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Champaign, and St. John's United Church of Christ in Brighton before becoming a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville. During those years, she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and confirmation classes. She also served as treasurer, financial secretary, and as a member of the church council. A 1950 graduate of Jersey Community High School, she earned a diploma in nursing from Washington University in St. Louis in 1953, and a BA from Eastern Illinois University in 1976. She became certified in school nursing through the Illinois State Board of Education that same year. She was employed as a nurse at hospitals in Victoria, Texas, Urbana, Ill., Alton and Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, as well as an office nurse in Champaign, Ill., and at Family Services and Visiting Nurses, Alton. She was a school nurse in Southwestern CUSD 9, Piasa, from 1967 until she retired in 1987 to spend more time with her family and to travel with her husband. As a member of the Illinois Association of School Nurses, she held several offices, including that of president, and was named Illinois School Nurse of the Year in 1986. After retirement, she served as executive secretary of the Association for 12 years. She was a life member of the Illinois Association of School Nurses, National Association of School Nurses, Inc., and Illinois and National Education Associations. In 2003, she was the first school nurse from Illinois to be inducted into the National Association of School Nurses Academy of Fellows. Her volunteer activities included the American Diabetes Association, American Red Cross, coordinator of countywide immunization programs in Macoupin County prior to the establishment of the county health department, and the American Cancer Society. She served several terms on the Jersey County ACS board and as chairman of the board. She also organized the first ACS Relay For Life in Jersey County in 2000, and served as chairman for the first two years. Named to the board of directors of Jersey Community Hospital in 1975, she served until her death. She was involved in the planning, building and moving from the original hospital on West Pine Street to the current facility on Maple Summit Road. Hospital accomplishments during her tenure included the addition of a physical therapy department, several building expansions; 24-hour medical coverage in the emergency room; hospital-based ambulance service; state of the art computer services hospital-wide; building of physician office space, the JCH Wellness Center, and the Women's Health Center; opening of the JCH Dialysis Center; and the establishment of the JCH Foundation. From 1993 to 1995, she served as the first female chairman of the board. The most pleasurable, gratifying and important roles in her life, however, were those of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and as a member of a large and loving extended family.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth M. and John J. Ammann of Godfrey; four granddaughters, Jennifer J. Winters, Carolyn K. (Winters) and her husband, Anthony L. (T.J.) Wadlow of Jerseyville, Laura E. Ammann of Godfrey, and Katherine A. Ammann of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., one grandson, Scott P. Winters of Jerseyville; and four great-grandchildren, Jaxon Winters, Katelyn N. and Brenen P. Wadlow, and Brody P. Winters, all of Jerseyville. Also surviving are two brothers and four sisters-in-law, David M. and Sharon Isringhausen, Paul M. and Alvina Isringhausen, and Joy Isringhausen, all of Jerseyville, and Gail Isringhausen of Richmond, Va., as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including three godchildren, Patricia (Isringhausen) Kelsey of Grand Haven, Mich., Lisa G. Isringhausen of Charleston, S.C., and Jeffrey Isringhausen of Vandalia, Ill. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark W. and Debra J. (Jackson) Winters; and three brothers, Richard Dale Isringhausen (infant), Marvin Eugene Isringhausen of Jerseyville and Carl Loren Isringhausen of Richmond, Va. (Bushnell) Schaaf, 72, died at 5:41 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at her home. A daughter of Olin and Clover Wilma (Camerer) Bushnell, she was born May 19, 1935, in Eldred. On Dec. 24, 1951, she and Leo K. "Pete" Schaaf were united in marriage in Carrollton. He survives. A homemaker, she was a member of Eastern Star for 47 years and a member of Bunker Hill Eastern Star Chapter 465 since Dec. 3, 1994. She was initiated into Calhoun Chapter 990 on Jan. 7, 1960. She was a worthy matron for the years of 1967, 1973, 1976, 1985, 1998, 2004 and 2005.

In addition to her husband, surviving are a daughter, Phyllis Kay Urban of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Keith and Debbie Schaaf of Mascoutah, Ill., and David Lee and Michele Schaaf of Alhambra; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was born on June 9, 1926, in Fieldon, and was the daughter of the late Leslie and Ruth (Levi) Schaaf. She married Joseph Cavanaugh on July 15, 1964, in Cairo, Ill., and the two were married just short of 10 years before his death on March 9, 1974. In her younger years, she was employed at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville, and served as a nanny for area families, and later, cared for the elderly in their homes. She was baptized a Jehovah Witness in 1970 and attended the Kingdom Hall in Jerseyville.

Surviving are a sister, Opal Powell of Jerseyville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Bert and Alma Schaaf of Fieldon and Leo "Pete" Schaaf of Bunker Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Joann, and her husband, Paul Cunningham of Jerseyville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; a sister, Agnes Isringhausen; three brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Cora Schaaf, Walter "Bud" and Dorothy Schaaf, and Frank and Evajean Schaaf; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Schaaf. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11. He was born near Fieldon Feb. 6, 1935, the son of Lester and Stella (Schaaf) Driver, now deceased. He married the former May Lou Woolsey Dec. 3, 1955, at the Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville, and together they shared 53 years together and shared the joys and responsibilities that came with their family of three children. For many years he was employed as a foreman at the Grafton Boat Works, and then later began working at the Tri County FS as an LP delivery/salesman, retiring in December 2008 due to his declining health.

Surviving are his wife, May Lou Woolsey of Jerseyville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rodney and Anita Driver and Darel Driver, all of Jerseyville; four grandchildren and their spouses, Julie and Chris Wilfong, Brandon and Shannon Dunham, Travis Driver, Samantha and Alex Poppe, all of Jerseyville; four great-grandchildren, Blake and Dylan Wilfong and Anna and Clayton Poppe, and one due in July; two brothers, Robert Driver of Delhi and Elmer "Sam" Driver of Jerseyville; and one sister, Nilda "Sis" Evans of Barnhart, Mo. He was preceded in death by his only daughter, Victoria "Vicky" Dunham, Jan. 23, 1995, and one brother, Charles "Shorty" Driver. (1a) Fred and Adelia (Schaaf) Young's daughter - Hazel Mildred (Young) Woolsey, 84, formerly of Kane, died at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for several years. The last surviving child of the late Fred and Adelia (Schaaf) Young, she was born in Rosedale Township in Jersey County on Feb. 20, 1918. On March 2, 1936, she married Phillip Woolsey in Jersey County. He died Aug. 25, 1980, while they were living in California.

During World War II, she was employed at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville, and the Western Corporation in East Alton. Before she retired, she worked with her sister, Lucille, at Town & Country Dry Cleaners in Jerseyville. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Gary and Sue Wade of Jerseyville, and their children and grandchildren, Terri and Darren Howland and daughter Kelsey; Sheryl and Don Simpson, and their daughter, Ashley Jones; and Debbie and Mike Bader, all of Jerseyville.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Tony, Fred, Carl and Robert Young; and four sisters, Leona Bell, Marguerite Lewis, Roberta "Bettie" Collins and Lucille Wade. (1a) Fred and Adelia (Schaaf) Young's son - Robert Elvin "Bob" Young, 80, went to be with the Lord 1719 7:18 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis County with his children and their spouses at his side. He was born in Jersey County on Sept. 10, 1922, to Fred and Adelia (Schaaf) Young. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and returned home, where he worked as an overhead crane operator for Olin Corp. in East Alton for 37 years before retiring. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, where he served as an ordained deacon during his lifetime. He was also a member of the Jerseyville American Legion, Moose Lodge 695, Olin Westerner Club, Tri County Antique Club and a lifetime member of the Boilermakers Union 483.

He married the former Edith "Edie" Schaff on Sept. 10, 1947, at the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville, and they shared 51 years of marriage before her sudden passing Jan. 22, 1999. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert A. and Nancy Young of Jerseyville, Richard and Mickey Young of Godfrey and Tim and Tiffany Young of Jerseyville; three daughters, Carol Young, Barb Woelfel and Sara Eberlin, all of Jerseyville; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Amy and Jason Steele, Suzie and Tim Sandifer, Beth Young, Carisa and Chas Peuterbaugh, Kristin and Chris Young, Marion Hanson, Elizabeth Woelfel, Dian Young, Cale Young, Laura Eberlin and Taylor Young; two great-grandchildren, Ariana Lillard and Claire Steele; and one sister, Hazel Woolsey of Jerseyville.

He was born Oct. 6, 1950, in Alton to Raymond and Rowena (Dahn) Schaaf. His father died on March 13, 1956, from a farm accident. His mother then married Roland Greene on May 27, 1967, and he died Jan. 23, 2004.

He graduated from Jersey Community High School and Belleville Area College Barber School. He started Kenny's Barber Shop in Jerseyville in 1971 and also worked for Jersey Community School District, working at the high school and East Elementary Grade School. He was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695 and enjoyed golfing, bowling and aggravating anyone he could. He was a co-owner and instrumental in starting Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his companion, Linda DeShasier of Jerseyville; one son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Nancy Schaaf of Godfrey; a sister, Helen DeMoss of Tilton, Ill.; two granddaughters, McKenzie and Madison Schaaf, at home; a niece, Melissa Barnes, and her husband, Kenny; and a great-nephew and great-niece, Cole and MaKenna Barnes, at home. He was awaiting the arrival of his third grandchild.

She was born Aug. 17, 1911 in Fieldon, a daughter of Frank and Tina Young Schaaf.

She was born on Aug. 12, 1922, in Carlinville, one of three children of Lawrence P. and Freda M. (Cochran) Schaaf. She graduated in 1941 from Carlinville High School and married Charles William Witt on Nov. 27, 1946, in Carlinville. They lived in Jerseyville for a time and while there she was employed as the office manager at Jersey County Farm Supply. They later returned to Carlinville, where they resided for nearly 35 years before moving to the Alton area in 1999. While in Carlinville, she was employed in the office of Konneker-Brown Implement Company and later enjoyed her free time traveling, pursuing the perfect bargain at yard sales and going to the Alton Belle. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Richard Wakeford of Alton and Cheryl and Larry Strohbeck of Brighton; a daughter-in-law, Ann Witt Huff of Santa Anna, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, William Broadwater of Granite City. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 28, 2001; a son, Dennis Witt on Aug. 25, 2000; an infant grandson, Jason Witt in 1974; a granddaughter, Carrie Bissett in 2002; her parents; a brother, Ernest Schaaf; and an infant sister, Minnie Mary Ellen Schaaf. Betty (Schaaf) Witt's husband - Charles Witt, 81, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. Born on the family farm in Polk Township, Macoupin County, just north of Plainview, on Jan. 28, 1920, he was a son of the late William and Opal (Parnell) Witt. After graduating from Carlinville High School in 1939, he entered the United States Navy during peacetime and served in the Pacific Ocean aboard four different submarines during World War II. Throughout his service he served on 13 war patrols and was honorably discharged as a chief petty officer and chief electrician. Upon his discharge he returned home and married the former Betty Gene Schaaf on Nov. 27, 1946 in Carlinville. She survives. A lifetime employee of MJM Electric Cooperative Inc., he began as a lineman in the Jersey County area from 1945 to 1962. Then he and his family relocated to Carlinville, where he was promoted as the companies coop general manager, a position he held for 33 years until retiring in 1985. After retiring he and his wife continued to live in Carlinville until a few years ago when they moved to their current home, where Witt continued to perfect his love of gardening. He was a 50 year member of the Plainview Masonic Lodge, a member of Jerseyville American Legion, where he was a past commander, the Carlinville American Legion, Carlinville Rotary, Illinois-Missouri World War II Submarine Veterans, Foster Township Senior Citizens and the United Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters and two sons-in-law, Dawn and Richard Wakeford of Camdenton, Mo. and Cheryl and Larry Strohbeck of Brighton; a daughter-in-law, Ann Witt Huff; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert Witt of Plainview; a sister, Helen Komick of Bunker Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his son, Dennis Lawrence Witt on Aug. 25, 2000 and two brothers, Leonard and Alfred Witt. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Robert Sabo will officiate. He will be laid to rest with full military honors conducted by the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and Veteran Foreign Wars Post 4528 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the Alton Memorial Hospital Nurses Education Fund.

(1aa) Charles and Betty (Schaaf) Witt's son - Dennis Lawrence Witt, 55, formerly of Jerseyville, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at his residence. Born Sept. 3, 1944, in Carlinville, he was a son of Charles and Betty (Schaaf) Witt, former Jerseyville and Carlinville residents, now of Alton. He was a 1962 graduate of Jersey Community High School and lived in the Alton, Godfrey area for a short time before moving to Arizona and eventually to Texas. Also surviving are two sisters, Dawn Wakeford of Camdenton, Mo. and Cheryl Strohbeck of Brighton. Visitation will be form 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Austin, Texas. Crawford Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

(8) George Edward and Sarah Ellen (Powers) Schaaf's son William August Schaaf married Lucille Calame. William August and Lucille (Calame) Schaaf had 6 children-Evelyn L. Schaaf married John W. Randolph 7-10-1948, Edna Marie Schaaf, Edith Eileen Schaaf married Robert E. Young 9-10-1947, Phyllis Jean Schaaf married Harold Lloyd Stone 5-7-1949, William Schaaf, and Ruth Ann Schaaf.

(9) George Edward and Sarah Ellen (Powers) Schaaf's son George Edward Schaaf was born 5-7-1900, and died 1-30-1917. He is buried at Rosedale Cemetery, Rosedale Township, Jesey County, IL.

(10) George Edward and Sarah Ellen (Powers) Schaaf's son Joshua Schaaf was born in 1902 and died in 1904. He is buried in Fieldon Cemetery.

(11) George Edward and Sarah Ellen (Powers) Schaaf's daughter Mary Ellen Schaaf married Mark Mathews 5-12-1925 in Jersey County, IL. She married 2nd. Emil B. Ohley. Mark and Mary Ellen (Schaaf) Mathews had a daughter Alsia Mathews. She married Robert John Metz. George Edward and Sarah Ellen (Powers) Schaaf's daughter Mary Ellen (Schaaf) Ohley died December 4, 1979 - A funeral mass for Mrs. Mary Ellen Ohley, 75, of 2400 S. State Street, Alton will be celebrated at 10 am Friday at St. Ambrose Catholic church, Godfrey. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery. She died at 10:25 am 4 December at Blu Fountain Nursing Home in Godfrey. She was born 25 December 1903 in Jersey county, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Edward Schaaf.

Mrs. Ohley taught in Jersey county schools for 37 years, retiring in 1963. She is survived by her husband, Emil Ohley whom she married 29 July 1944 in Jerseyville; one daughter, Alsia Metz of Alton; two grandchildren; one Brother, John Schaaf of Escondido, California. Visitation from 4 to 9 pm Thursday at Gent Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7pm.
