His mother Martha (Stites) Hewitt was born in 1806 or 1809 in NJ or Hamilton County, Ohio and died 4-6-1856 in Jersey County, IL. (Another source says her maiden name was Gillespie), (A tombstone in Jersey Co. reads Martha wife of E. Hewitt, died 1856, aged 47). She was the daughter of Jonathan Benjamin Stites born Nov. 18, 1774 in Ohio and died Feb. 26, 1855 in Jefferson Co., Indiana and Elizabeth Lawrence born Aug, 25, 1777, died 1864. Martha's father Jonathon Benjamin Stites was the son of Henry Stites & Lydia (Osborn) Stites.

Born March 23, 1929, in Alton, he was the son of Thomas and Ida Mae (Ruckman) Bishop. He retired from the Olin Corporation as a ballistics tester and foreman in 1989. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Rangers. He was a member of the Alton Eagles FOE 254 and enjoyed fishing and golf.

She was born July 17, 1920, in Jerseyville, a daughter of the late Leonard and Theda (Reed) Hewitt. She worked for the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville before she was married and worked at the Western in East Alton during World War II. She married Francis Charles "Frank" Willenburg Feb. 2, 1946, at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Jerseyville. They were married for nearly 50 years before his death Dec. 16, 1995.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Fran Willenburg of Jerseyville; a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Ed Gowin of Kane; two grandchildren, Pamela Royse of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Shawn Clark of Brussels; three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Kelsey Royse and Easton Clark; and two sisters, Margie Chapman of Greenfield and Phyllis Yost of Brighton. Preceding her in death were three brothers, John, Jess and Jerry Hewitt. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville with the Rev. Reuben Ankeny officiating. She will be laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. (Hewitt) Willenburg's son Darrell Eugene Willenburg's obituary - Darrell Eugene Willenburg, formerly of Jerseyville, 59, died at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born Nov. 7, 1949, in Carrollton, the son of Francis C. and Betty N. (Hewitt) Willenburg. Darrell grew up in Jerseyville, where he attended high school. After graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army before he was honorably discharged and returned home. He married Fran Herring on July 3, 1976, in Fidelity, and they have shared the past 33 years together. They resided in Jerseyville until recently, where they moved to Rustic Acres in New Douglas. Darrell was employed with Jersey Community School District for 23 years. The outdoors was very much a part of his life. Darrell loved to go hunting, fishing and camping with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Fran; a son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Connie Clark of Meppen; two grandchildren, Easton and Colby Clark; a twin sister, Darlene and her husband, Ed Gowin, of Kane; a sister-in-law, Bobbi and her husband, Ron Steinkeuhler, of Jerseyville; one niece; four nephews; one great-niece; two great-nephews; and a mother-in-law, Jeanie Herring. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 31. Burial will follow in Walkerville Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or to the National Kidney Foundation. Crawford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Darrell Willenburg's wife Frances (Herring) Willenburg's father Robert Vernon Herring's obituary - Robert Vernon Herring, 81, died at 5:05 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at his residence. He was born April 27, 1927, in Woodville Township in Greene County, the youngest of 10 children born to Jacob E. and Chancey Mae (Rice) Herring. He grew up in Carrollton and worked as a mechanic in a few body shops in Carrollton/White Hall before entering the United States Army during World War II, serving with the Army/Air Force in Japan. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and married the former Ada E. Edmiston Feb. 1, 1947, in Carrollton, where they resided for the first five years of their marriage before relocating to Jerseyville, where they continued to live. They shared 48 years together before she died Dec. 3, 1995. He then married Jeanie (Fischer) Louvier Feb. 14, 2004, at the Assembly of God Church in Carlinville. She survives. He was employed at Olin Corporation in East Alton and retired as a slitter adjuster in the Brass Mill after 36 years of service, and was a 50-year member of the Machinist's Union. He was an accomplished musician, concentrating on both the guitar and harmonica, and was a member of the Sunshine Band in Jerseyville, entertaining residents of area nursing homes for many years. A member of the Fidelity Assembly of God, the three staples in his life were church, family and music, and he devoted much of his time and love to all three.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanie of Jerseyville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Darrell Willenburg of New Douglas and Bobbi and Ron Steinkuehler of Carrollton; five grandsons and their spouses, Shawn and Connie Clark of Meppen, Doug Steinkuehler of Carrollton, Chris and Whitney Steinkuehler of Godfrey, Robert Steinkuehler and Justin Steinkuehler, both of Jerseyville; two great-grandchildren, Easton and Colby Clark; four stepchildren and their spouses, Charles and Shiela Louvier of East Alton, Brian Louvier of Gillespie, Michael Louvier of Carlinville and Timothy Louvier, stationed with the United States Army in Iraq; 10 stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ada, three sisters, Ethel Shaw, Virginia Miller, Mella Gilleland and an infant sister, Christina; five brothers, Jacob, Roy, Norman, Fred and Harold Herring. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17. The Rev. (2a) Paul Leonard and Theda (Reed) Hewitt's son Jesse Samuel Hewitt's wife Verna Jean (Rothe) Hewitt's father Otto F. Rothe's obituary - Died 01-19-1972. Otto F. Rothe, retired farmer of Rural Route 1, Jerseyville, died Wednesday, January 19, at St. Luke hospital in St. Louis, the day before his 81st birthday. He had been a patient at the hospital for a week. Friends may call at the Warner Funeral Home in Brighton after 3 pm Thursday. At noon Friday the body will be moved to the Presbyterian church at Brighton where services will be held at 2 pm with Rev. Bob Branin officiating. Interment will be in Brighton cemetery. Mr. Rothe, a son of the late Herman & Katherine (Weber) Rothe, was born in Jersey County January 20, 1891. He was married in 1916 to Lillie M. Downs. Her death occurred in 1964.
His survivors include 6 sons, Melvin, Frank, and Wilbur Rothe of Brighton, John and Charles of Jerseyville, and Robert Rothe of Kane; 6 daughters, Mrs. Don Voorhees and Mrs. Howard Freeman of Brighton, Mrs. Jesse Hewitt of Godfrey, Mrs. William Mundy of Alton, Mrs. William Lewis of Piasa, and Mrs. Dale Darr of Medora; 2 sisters, Lydia Roberts of Alaska and Ellen Clifton of Fla., and 1 brother, Herman Rothe of St. Charles; 48 grandchildren and 14 g-grandchildren.

Paul Leonard and Theda (Reed) Hewitt's son Jesse Samuel Hewitt's wife Verna Jean (Rothe) Hewitt's brother John H. "Bud" Rothe's obituary - John H. "Bud" Rothe, 69, died at 6:40 pm Friday, September 21, 1990, at home after a short illness. He retired in 1981 as a carpenter from Amco Oil Company in Wood River after 38 years of service. Born in Jersey County, he was the son of the late Otto F. & Lillie (Down) Rothe. He married the former Charlotte Kirchner on June 14, 1941, in St. Charles, Missouri.
Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters, Carol Nichol of St. Cloud, MN, Sharon Knepper of Oxford, Maxx, and Linda Bishop of Madison, WI; 6 grandchildren; 6 Sisters, Eileen Voorhees and Della Freeman, both of Brighton, Evelyn Mundy and Verna Hewitt, both of Godfrey, and Ina Lowis and Nina Darr, both of Piasa; and 5 brothers, Melvin and Frank Rothe, both of Brighton, Charles and Wilbur Rothe, both of Jerseyville, and Robert Rothe of Kane. Visitation is from 4-8 pm today at Targhetta Funeral Home in Brighton, and will continue from 8:30 am Monday until service time at 10:30 am at First Presbyterian church in Brighton. Rev. She enjoyed bowling with her lady friends, and participated in numerous bowling tournaments with them.
Surviving are her husband, Donald; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Merle Megginson of Woodson; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dick and Janice Raftis of Grayslake, David Raftis of Medora, Tom and Sue Raftis of Macomb and Jim and Amy Raftis of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her only surviving sister, Helen (Frech) Rhoades of Carrollton. Three brothers, Jake, William and Paul Frech and a sister, Katherine Richards, preceded her in death. He was born in Jerseyville on May 5, 1920, and was one of four children born to the late Orville and Mary Edna (Killebrew) Guilander Sr. Raised in Kane, Bob graduated from Kane High School, and was a resident of Kane for many years, serving on the school board, as well as a Kane Village Trustee. He was 50 plus year member of the Kane Baptist Church, and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also a charter member of the Crawford American Legion Post 1038 in Kane, and served on the board of the Kane Cemetery. Bob was pipefitter by trade, and began his employment with Shell Oil Company in Wood River. Later he became employed with Ford Motor Company in Hazelwood, Mo., where he retired.
He married the former Effie Alice Mundy in November 1940 and together they were the parents of three children. She and Bob shared 43 years together before her death on Dec. 26, 1983. He later married Anna Marie (Malik) Walsh on June 20, 1987, in Kane, and she died March 11, 2003. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Richard Raftis of North Fort Myers, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Guilander of Collinsville and Richard and Pam Guilander of Chesterfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and George Woods of Chatanooga, Tenn. He was preceded in death by a brother, Orville Guilander Jr.; and a sister, Joyce Murray. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. "Doc" Collins, 89, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was born May 24, 1919, in Jersey County to David Michael and Margaret "Maggie" (Baum) Collins. He was raised on the family farm in Jersey County, and graduated from Jersey Township High School in 1937. He enlisted with the United States Army in 1941, and served his country in World War II. While on leave, he married the former Roberta "Bette" Young July 26, 1943, at Saint Francis Xavier Church in Jerseyville. They shared 40 years together before her sudden death Jan. 14, 1984. They were blessed with seven children and they all were raised on the family farm. In addition to farming, he was also employed with Modern Plumbing in East Alton for 27 years, and was a member of Local 553. Soon after the death of his wife, he retired. He married Barbara (Schleper) Arger Oct. 7, 1988, at Saint Francis Xavier Church, and they recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. He was a devoted man, whether it was to his family, his church, his country, or to the citizens of Jersey County, who honored him with their confidence to serve in many capacities. He was a precinct committeeman for many years in Fidelity Township; was currently serving on the Jersey Township Board; served on the Jersey County Board for 16 years, the last four serving as board chairman; and was appointed by the governor to serve as the Jersey County Public Guardian until the time of his passing. He was a loyal member of the Democratic Party, the Knights of Columbus, where he was a Fourth Degree member, and served as a past Grand Knight; member of Jerseyville American Legion, Elks and Moose Lodges.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara; two daughters and son-in-law, Pamela Heitzig of Jerseyville and Sue and Tom Raftis of Macomb; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kimberly Collins of Bethalto, John and Lisa Collins and Mike and Connie Collins, all of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four stepchildren and their spouses, Harry and Lisa Arger of Park Ridge, Mary and Marty Bixby of St. Paul, Mo., Christopher and Kim Arger of St. Peters, Mo., and Jeffrey and Carla Arger of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 11 step-grandchildren; a brother, Emmett "Pee Wee" Collins of Jerseyville; and two sisters, Eileen Gress of Dixon, Mo., and Maurietta Gibbons of Alton. Firman (Fern) Ebenezer Reed was the son of William Henry Reed born about 1815 in Camden NJ and Mary E. born 1828 (her maiden name unknown). William Henry Reed was also married to Sarah Ann Cook born 1826. Lloyd Laverne Reed, was married twice, 1st to Marie (maiden name unknown), and 2nd to Stella Hewitt.

He worked for Newart Engraving, a greeting card company, for over 47 years. He was also a veteran of WWII, serving in the Navy. He died in 1924 while attending Stanford Uiversity, He is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, CA. He was a WWI veteran, having enlisted in 1917 and went overseas with AEF and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant infantry. He married first Georgia Henson born 1902. He married 2nd Lillian Love Ried born in 1898 in NY, died in 1984. They had a son Robert Spencer Hewitt born 11-9-1920 in Lake County, Gary Indiana. Jesse S. Hewitt's son Robert Hewitt married his wife Elizabeth Leslie Fairbanks in 1952 in Arizona, and has 2 children, Ellen and Paul, and 5 grandchildren. He�retired at 62 from about�40 years working in construction and mining.�He was at Pearl Harbor working underground when the Japanese attacked, and after 2-years there, went to the Aleutians for more military construction work designing crushing plants, roads, a break water & etc. When that type of work ran out, the military wanted him to stay on the island driving trucks and tractors, so he enlisted in the Navy eventually ending up on Okinawa. Then he went to Peru to work in a mine at 13,500 ft. until illness forced him to leave the altitude. He then returned home to the U.S. to continue his education. He later worked for Bechtel Corp. in San Francisco, CA and abroad for 25 years until his retirement. He now lives in Walnut Creek, CA.
Robert Hewitt's wife Elizabeth died in Dec 2003 from Lou Gehrig's disease. She was born in 1928. Robert and Elizabeth (Fairbanks) Hewitt had 2 children-Ellen Leslie Hewitt and Paul Chandler Hewitt.
