The vigorous life of the resident physician took a heavy tool of his health and the doctor resigned because of ill health in August of 1906. The family moved to El Reno where a house was built on a downtown street . Dr. Westfall probably hoped to maintain his practice because there was space for an office. Burial: Aft. 02 Feb. 1907 El Reno, Canadian Co., Oklahoma Occupation: Medical Doctor. He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs on the Cheyenne-Arapahoe indian reservation near El Reno, Oklahoma. When making his rounds, he communicated with his indian patients in plains indian sign language. They understood little English and he was equally versed in their language. Bet. 1880 and 1907. He graduated 1880 from New York College of Physician and Surgeons (Columbia U.), New York, New York. Note: Degree in Medicine. Religion: Dutch Reform, Presbyterian. Note: Event: Anecdote Bet. 1888 and 1906 in Cheyenne-Arapaho Indian Agency, El Reno, Canadian Co., Oklahoma - Note: Many writers and artists visited the Indian School as well as the Army Post, and in writing of their visits, they spoke of the young doctor and his wife, and of her discomfiture at living on the Indian Reservation. As is usually the case near an Army Post, there was a very active social life, with dances, cards, and other social activities. The doctor was an avid hunter and his skill provided bountiful food for the table. Albertine was a special cook and plump quail and other denizens of the prairie were often served. Each fall several barrels of apples arrived from the Westfall farm in New York State. Albertine was a beautiful seamstress and her needlework made the home attractive. There were many books and a piano in the home, though lacking in electricity, refrigeration, and in-door plumbing. He was an American academic, biographer and historian of science, best known for his biography of Isaac Newton and his work on the scientific revolution of the 17th century. He was one of the foremost Newton scholars of his generation, and was Professor of History and of History and Philosophy of Science at Indiana University. His publications included: Science and Religion in Seventeenth-Century England (1958, 1973), The Construction of Modern Science: Mechanism and Mechanics (1971), Force in Newton's Physics: the Science of Dynamics in the Seventeenth Century (1971), Never at Rest: A Biography of Isaac Newton (1980), Essays on the Trial of Galileo (1989), and The Life of Isaac Newton (1993), and in 1983 the History of Science Society (which he served as president in 1977 and 1978), honored him with its Pfizer Award for Never at Rest, which will be the standard biography of Isaac Newton for many years. Richard Samuel Westfall graduated from Yale University in 1948, after time out for military service during World War II. He also received master's and doctoral degrees from Yale. He taught at the State University of Iowa and at Grinnell College before joining the Indiana University faculty in 1963. He became an emeritus professor in 1989. Note: A memorial service will be conducted for longtime South Lake Tahoe resident Frank Phillip Westfall, who died Friday at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. He was 85. Westfall was born in Darlington, Okla., on Oct. 15, 1903. He was a 23-year resident of South Lake Tahoe. He retired as an executive from Pacific Telephone, where he had also been a founder, director and trustee of the company's credit union. He was a distinguished alumnus of Park College in Missouri, a volunteer for the local Meals on Wheels program and a budget committee member of Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church. He was described as an avid fisherman and backpacker. Survivors include his wife, Anne Westfall, of Gardnerville; two daughters, Jane Westfall of Manhatten, Kan., and Mary Westfall Rosen of Bethesda, Md.; and sister Mary Westfall Turner, of Bethesda. The memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church. Inurment will be at Happy Homestead Cemetery under the direction of McFarlane Mortuary. He has been a member of this church for over 20 years, durin g which time he served as an Elder for three years, and was active on th e budget committee. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church. A reception is being held in the church Fireside Room after the services. His residence Bet. 1927 and 1966 was Lafayette, California. He married Anne Newman born 13 Sept. 1898. They were married 13 June 1927 in Oakland, Alameda Co., California. She married Jacob Cronkhite (1791-abt.) in Montgomery Co., NY, presumably Minden or Charleston. He was born in 1771-Jun 11 in probably Claverack, Columbia Co., New York.

(Note: Elizabeth's beginnings as the first child were during the "Lost Years" for Johan and Anna Sales. We don't know how they met or where they married. It could be Ulster or Dutchess County, or somewhere in Old Albany County (Greene, Columbia, or Rensselaer). All we know is they most likely lived along the Hudson River, somewhere between Kingston and Saratoga. The Cronkhites were moving around this same area -- Dutchess Co to Claverack to Hoosick, with Jacob's father and older brother fighting in the Indian Wars and then the Revolution. So far there has been no actual record found of either Jacob or Elizabeth's birth. Jacob's family left Hoosick by 1785. We pick up Elizabeth as a baby or little girl with her parents in Hoosick, when the family appears in records of Schaghticoke Dutch Reformed Church, the closest one around, in the early 1770's.)

Her death was 1866-Mar 3 in Randolph, Cattaraugus County, New York. She married Joel Scudder in 1814 in Victor, Ontario County, New York. He was born in 1791 in Victor, Ontario County, New York. He served in the War of 1812. His father Ezekiel Scudder was a Revolutionary soldier.

(Note: From -- THE HISTORY OF CATTARAUGUS COUNTY,NEW YORK -- Randolph Township - Ezekiel Scudder, a Revolutionary soldier, came from Victor, Ontario Co., in 1827, and located on lot 14. He died in town. Joel Scudder, a son of the above, bought out the Ben Clark place in 1830. One of his sons, Samuel, is now a resident of lot 32. Marvin Scudder came in 1828, and settled in that part of the village now occupied by the business houses. He moved to Illinois. To the same State moved Freeman Scudder, who came, a single man with his father, in 1827, and afterwards married a Miss Sample. Another of Ezekiel's sons, Enos, settled in Cold Spring at an early day, and moved from there to Kentucky. The family is one of the oldest and best known in town. 1833-Joel Scudder Town Clerk of Randolph Benjamin Clark opened the first public-house near Dry Brook about 1825. In the fall of 1830, Joel Scudder moved in and kept the house until about 1838. It was soon afterwards abandoned as a tavern, but the building still stands, and is the second oldest frame in the town. Joel Scudder, son of Ezekiel, was born in Victor, N. Y., Dec. 5, 1793. He served in the War of 1812, married Hannah Cronk, and engaged in farming. In 1830 they moved to Randolph, where he bought the Benjamin Clark farm, which included the grounds occupied by the railroad depot, and about two years later opened his house as a tavern. About seven years later he removed to Carroll, Chautauqua county, where he resided ten years and kept hotel. Returning to Randolph he followed farming until his death March 3, 1866, his wife dying the same day, both being buried in the same coffin. Of their six sons and four daughters six are living: Polly, widow of Nathan L. Sears; Rumina (Mrs. Henry L. Berray); Joel, of Kiantone, N. Y.; Elizabeth, widow of Hon. Reuben E. Fenton, of Jamestown, N. Y.; Albert; and Lester. John Dempster Scudder, son of Joel, enlisted in the Civil war and was killed in battle in 1865. Lester Scudder, the youngest son of Joel, was born in Randolph, Sept. 21, 1833, and inherited the homestead, which he still owns. Feb. 15, 1866, he married Alida C., youngest daughter of Adam Dockstater, and has one son, Frank L. Abraham Westfall was baptised on 19 October 1754 at the Reformed Church of Rhinebeck, Dutchess Co., NY, son of Gysbert Westfall and Annetjen Van Etten. Abraham Westfall was a grandson of Symen and Neeltje (Quackenbosch) Westfall, and his great grandfather was Jurian Westfall the original Westfall emigrant to America in 1642. Abraham Westfall died 29 July 1793 intestate while still in his 30s in Dutchess Co NY. At the time of his death, he was of Rhinebeck. He was married, also at Rhinebeck Reformed Church, on 21 April 1782 to Johannah or Hannah Thiel (aka Teel or Diehl or Dill). Abraham Westfall and Johannah Thiel had five children of record, all baptised at Rhinebeck (4 at the Reformed Church, 1 at the Lutheran Church)-Gilbert Westfall born 11 Oct 1782, died in 1830s, married Mary (maiden name unknown), moved to Schodack, Rensselaer Co., NY (9 children); Elizabeth Westfall born 10 Sept 1784, married Christian C. I don't know the maiden surname of Gilbert's wife Mary, but she was born in about 1785 in Columbia Co., NY and died after 1865, probably in Schodack, NY. Gilbert and Mary moved during the 1810s from Kinderhook to nearby Schodack, Rensselaer Co., NY. Their nine children were-John G. Westfall, Abraham Westfall, Eliza Westfall Morris, Sylvester Westfall, William Westfall, Hudson River boat Captain Lyman B.
