Note: I found the following information about Franklin Clarence Westfall on the internet at this website- http://www.geocities.com/heartland/valley/7259/ The death of Frank Westfall came not as a surprise to anyone, but his passing brought to the minds of all who were aware of his condition the spirit with which he faced the inevitable when he knew he was fighting a losing battle. Stricken several months ago with malignant disease of the throat, his first venture against the dreaded malady was to have his larynx removed. The operation left him speechless and also necessitated breathing through a open incisional opening in the front of his throat. This alone was enough to take the metal out of the strongest of the strong, but not so with Frank. For quite some time his mode of conversation was with a pencil and scratch pad, but he soon conquered a method of articulating words from his stomach which enabled him to carry on short conversations with his friends, If his spirit waned the least whit under such conditions it wasn't evident on the surface. he refused to sit back in solitude, but just went right on doing the things he liked to do and enjoying life to the fullest. His was the spirit of a real man. Peace to his soul and condolences to his loved ones. (Note: The Westfall - McAhron BIBLE RECORD: Westfall, Bullitt Co., KY - The Westfall - McAhron Bible record is in the possession of Lois Hutchins Whitlock of Corning, Tehama County, CA. She received it from her maternal aunt, Ida McAhron Mortenson, who, in turn, had been given the Bible after the death of her father, Jacob Lewis McAhron. John Westfall entered most of the record himself. This is substantiated by a comparison of the handwriting in the Bible record, John's handwriting and signature on original court records (such as Brooks Heirs vs. Reed, et al., Bullitt Circuit Court, KY). Upon examination of James McAhron's signature, it is likely that he wrote some of his children's birth entries. James McAhron, son of William McAhron and Jane Lewis, was born in Bardstown, Nelson County, KY. Around 1819 he moved with his parents to Bullitt County, KY, where he reared his own family and died. That the Bible originally belonged to John Westfall is also supported by Bullitt County court records which show that Andrew Eddington (Bible page 679) had been apprenticed to John Westfall on 16 Jun 1821. Furthermore, Samuel and Jenny Quick (Bible page 579) are undoubtedly the same as the Samuel Quick and Jenneke Kortrecht who married 1 Jun 1775, in the Minisink-Machackemeck Dutch Reformed Church, Orange County, NY. Both Samuel's and Jenny's mothers' maiden names were Westfall. Samuel's and Jenny's daughter, Lydia Quick Williams, was John Westfall's fourth cousin. John Westfall's father and both of Sarah Westfall's parents were baptized in the Minisink-Machackemeck Dutch Reformed Church. Daniel and Henry Westfall were brothers, sons of Johannes Westfall and Apollonia Kortrecht. Sarah Westfall's father was Henry Westfall, her mother Susanna Kortrecht, daughter of William Kortrecht who was a brother of Apollonia Kortrecht and a relative of Jenneke Kortrecht above. Brothers Daniel and Henry Westfall left the East Coast and moved to what is now West Virginia. They then removed to what is now Bullitt County, KY, in 1789/90. Their offspring, John Westfall and Sarah Westfall, married in Bullitt County, KY. After the death of both of his parents, Jacob Lewis McAhron took the Bible with him when he moved to Carroll County, IN, in the 1850s. Alice D. McAhron, born in Carroll County, IN, was Jacob's first child. Jacob's sister Minerva also moved to the same county, where she married Alfred E. Briney. Greenup Briney, their son, was born in Carroll County, IN. Samuel L. Nichols lived on land adjacent to James McAhron's father, William McAhron, on the Salt River near Cedar Point Creek, Bullitt County, KY. Samuel's half-brother, Shadrack Anderson Nichols, married Ellen Jane McAhron, daughter of William McAhron and his second wife, Jane Tingle. Someone wrote over most of the entries on page 670, probably because the ink had faded. Submitted by: Anette Stanley Rardin, 12640 Iron Mountain Road, Redding, CA 96001, [email protected] MARRIAGES. William de Camville The Camvilles (later spelled Camfields or Canfields) are a legendary family with an ancestral history going back to the de Camvilles of France prior to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The family probably originated from Canville-les-Deux-'glises in Normandy. The Canfields are descendants from William de Camville, of Castle De'Olonde, erected in 1050, in Camville, Normandy, France, whose son Sir Richard de Camville went to England with William the Conqueror in 1066, and was granted land in many shires in England. From Sir Richard de Camville descended another Sir Richard, founder of Coombe Abbey, Warwickshire, in 1150. He was one of the admirals of the fleet of King Richard I of England, which went to the Crusades in 1190. The name gradually became "Camfield" and later "Canfield" when surnames were commonly used, and the name and descendants have been found in many shires in England ever since. Only in the last half of the eleventh century, or after William the Conqueror entered England, were surnames used. He and his assistants prepared the "Doomsday Book" in 1085-86, in which lands were listed in surnames. The American Branch came from the Northamptonshire family who between 1190 and 1552 changed the name de Camville to Camfield. The first we follow is John Camfield, of Alderton Esq., who seemingly is the Randolph County Canfield's line. His will is dated July 2, 1522; whose son John, will 1557, had a son Richard. Richard Camfield, a minister, no will date recorded, but his death date was in 1593, had a son Gregory, will 1636, and the father of the Honorable Matthew. The Honorable Matthew Camfield, one of the first to come to America, settled first in New Haven, Connecticut, and later removed to Newark, New Jersey. Matthew is the ancestor of the Canfields in Randolph County, Virginia, now West Virginia. There are places in England named Camfield, or Canfield. In Hartfordhire, a park and Camfield Hall; in Essex, Camfield Castle, built about 1100, is now in ruins. In the neighborhood of Hartfordhire, there are two parishes "Great Canfield and Little Canfield". Several places in the United States and in Canada are named Canfield. In Norwalk, Connecticut, one finds Camfield Island and Creek, known by the name of the man to whom they were originally granted "Matthew Camfield who came from Hartfordhire". In England a shire is as a county in America. In Hartfordhire, many Canfields have lived for centuries. The correct spelling of this surname has long been a controversy among different branches of the family. The different spellings were sometimes blamed on the lawyers or recorders, and their way of spelling, probably by sound. An example may be found in the Randolph County records. In the year 1801, Mary Canfield, a daughter of Daniel, was married to Henry Schoonover, and the name recorder as Campfield, but in 1814, Daniel's son Amos N. was married and the name recorded as we, his descendants, spell it "Canfield". Matthew Camfield, the first generation and direct line of the West Virginia family, was traced through the third generation by Fred A. Canfield in his history, and the name was then being spelled Canfield. The third and fourth generations were given in THE COLONIAL FAMILES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, vol. 4, edited by George Norbury Mackenzie, 1914. The record was supplied and verified by Von Beck Canfield who also stated "that records were destroyed by burning of Norwalk by Tyron's English soldiers during the Rev. War on 12th of July 1779, and at Bedford, N. Y., 2nd July 1779". We are fortunate that he had the records recorded. The Canfield history was being continued by Dr. Amos Canfield, Riverside Drive, New York City. He died before he published what he had collected by 1930. The family record of Jedediah Canfield, Jr., was supplied by the "New York Genealogical and Biographical Society," taken from the Jedediah E. Drake Bible records and Dr. Amos Canfield's collection. ----------- Richard de Camville (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Richard de Camville (died 1191) was an English crusader knight, and one of Richard the Lionheart's senior commanders during the Third Crusade. In June 1190, at Chinon, he was, with 3 others, put in charge of King Richard's fleet sailing for the Holy Land. In 1191 he was appointed governor of Cyprus, jointly with Robert of Thornham. He died later in the same year at the Siege of Acre. Richard de Camville - was born about 1090 in Abbey Of Combe, Warwickshire, England and died in Siege of Acre. (1) Gregorie Camfield The solidly-documented Camfield migration winding up in Port Townsend begins with Gregorie (or Gregory) Camfield son of Richard Camfield, a minister, no will date recorded, but his death date was in 1593. Richard was a son of John Camfield, who was a son of John Camfield of Alderton Esq., who seemingly is the Randolph County Canfield's line. His will is dated July 2, 1522; whose son John, will 1557, had a son Richard Camfield, a minister, no will date recorded, but his death date was in 1593, and he had a son Gregory, will 1636, and the father of the Honorable Matthew born 1604. Gregorie Camfield was a stone mason in Harleston, Northamptonshire, England, born in 1570. He married Joan (maiden name unknown). Gregorie Camfield and his wife Joan had a son Matthew Camfield who was born in 1604. (1a) Matthew Camfield, son of Gregorie Camfield and Joan, was born in 1604 and emigrated to New Haven, Connecticut, in the mid-1630s. He was one of the first settlers there and later was among the petitioners to England's King Charles II for the creation of Connecticut Colony. He was one of the patentees of the royal charter in 1662. Matthew later was among the initial group moving into New Jersey when Indian hostilities abated there, and was one of the founders of New Haven. He is said to have been buried where the Newark City Hall later was built. He had a son Samuel Camfield born 1645. (1aa) Matthew Camfield's son Samuel Camfield (born 1645), married Elizabeth Merwin Willoughby. Samuel Camfield and Elizabeth Merwin Willoughby had a son Jedediah Canfield Sr was born August 1681. He married Lydia Kellum in 1719 in Norwalk, Fairfield Co, CT. Lydia Kellum was born 1698 in Norwalk, Fairfield, Ct, and died 1783 in Bedford, Westchester, New York. She was the daughter of Theophilus Kellum and Lydia. Jedediah Canfield Sr and Lydia Kellum had a son Jedediah Canfield Jr. born in 1722. (1aaaa) Jedediah Canfield Sr. and Lydia Kellum's son Jedediah Canfield Jr. was born 1722 in Norwalk, Fairfield, Ct., and died 1805 in Orange Co., NY. His wife Rose Ketchum was born 21 Aug 1736 in Greenwich, Fairfield, Ct., and died 15 Jun 1817 in Slate Hill, Orange, NY. She married Jedediah Canfield Jr. 1756 in Ct. Her parents were Benjamin Ketcham and Rose Westcott. Children of Jedediah Canfield Jr. and Rose Ketchum were-Daniel Canfield born 10 Feb 1757 in Orange Co., Ny, and died 31 Oct 1832 in Lewis Co., Wv; Titus Canfield born 28 Nov 1758 in Orange Co., Ny; Susanna Canfield born 17 Jul 1760 in Orange Co., Ny; Ezra Canfield born 29 Sep 1762 in Orange Co., Ny; Ebenezer Canfield born 15 Dec 1764 in Orange Co., Ny, and died 9 Sep 1849 in Unadilla, Orange, Ny; Jesse Canfield born 26 Apr 1768 in Orange Co., Ny, and died 20 Nov 1830 in Slate Hill, Orange, Ny; Anna Canfield born 16 Aug 1769 in Orange Co., Ny, and died 1 Mar 1845 in Smithboro, Tioga, Ny; Sarah Canfield was born 31 Jul 1770 in Orange Co., Ny, and died 1864; and Josiah Canfield born 15 Apr 1766 in , Orange, New York. ---------------- (Note: Jedediah Canfield Jr's wife Rose Ketchum's father Benjamin Ketcham was born Abt. 1685 in Huntington, Suffolk County, New York, and died 1741 in Bedford, Westchester Co., NY. He was the son of Samuel Ketcham and Mary Titus. He married Rose Westcott Abt. 1726 in Bedford, Westchester Co., NY. Rose Westcott was born 1701 in Bedford, Westchester Co., NY, and died Aft. 1741 in Bedford, Westchester Co., NY. She was the daughter of Richard Westcott and Rachel Holmes. Rose Westcott's father Richard Westcott was one of the original proprietors of Bedford, Westchester county, New York, and said to be of the family of Stukely Westcott, the associate of Roger Williams in the foundation of the city of Providence, Rhode Island. Richard Westcott came to Wethersfield, Connecticut from England, and settled in Stamford, Connecticut in 1640. Richard Westcott was a Connecticut Soldierin the PequotWar of 1637. The Pequot War was fought in 1637. It involved the Pequot Indians and the settlers of the Pilgrim Colony and the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Pequot were a powerful tribe, their only serious rival the Narragansett. The Narragansett and Mohegan Indian tribes aligned with the English to help defeat the Pequot. Parents of Richard Westcott were John Westcott born 12 Nov 1572 in Bishops Tawton, Devon, England, and Anstis Renell or Reynolds born 1569 in Swimbridge, Devonshire, England. The place of origin of the Westcott family appears to center around the town of Affton in county Devon in England. Here the unusual combination of the surnames Stukeley and Westcott appears, as does the very unusual female given name of Damaris, found in the Stukeley family. Stukeley Westcott first appears on a public record when he was married in St. John's Church in Yeovil, Somerset, England on October 5, 1619 to Juliann Marchante; his marriage record indicates that he was from Ilminster, a town in Somerset about twelve miles west of Yeovil. Juliann was the daughter of John Marchante (baptized at Yeovil 8 August 1571) who was the son of John Marchante (died 1593) by his wife Eva Corninge, which couple was married in Yeovil 18 July 1568. John Marchante was the same as the John Marchant who sailed with Sir Francis Drake and died in Panama in 1595. The baptisms of two of Stukeley Westcott's children were also recorded in Yeovil: a daughter Damaris in 1620/21 and a son Samuel in 1622/23. There is no record of where Westcott lived following the baptisms of these two children, but there is reasonable speculation that in 1635 he and his family accompanied the family of William Arnold to New England, departing from the port town of Dartmouth in county Devon. While Roscoe Whitman states this as a fact, he provides no evidence. However, the Arnold family came from the town of Ilchester, scarcely five miles north of Yeovil, and it is possible that the two families were acquainted with each other before sailing to the New World. Both families arrived in the Massachusetts Bay Colony at about the same time, and both came to Providence at about the same time. Stukeley Westcott (1592 - 12 January 1677) was one of the founding settlers of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations and one of the original members of the first Baptist Church in America, established by Roger Williams in 1638. Coming to the New World from the town of Yeovil in Somerset, England, he first settled in Salem in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, but difficulties with the authorities prompted him to join Roger Williams in settling on the Narragansett Bay in 1638 at a place named Providence. He remained there for a few years, but in 1648 he was recorded as an inhabitant of Warwick, probably having settled there several years earlier. He was most active in colonial affairs from 1650 to 1660 when he was a commissioner, surveyor of highways, and the keeper of a house of entertainment. His highest office held was deputy of the colony in 1671. Stukeley Westcott married Juliann Marchante. He married Juliana Marchant October 5, 1619 in Yeovil, Somersetshire, England. She was born August 8, 1591 in England, and died 1670 in Rhode Island. They had a daughter Damaris Westcott (baptized at Yeovil 27 Jan 1620/21 - after 1678) who married 17 December 1640 Benedict Arnold, the son of William and Christian (Peak) Arnold. Notable descendants of Stukeley Westcott, through his daughter Damaris, wife of Governor Benedict Arnold, include a great-great-grandson, Benedict Arnold, one of the great generals of the American Revolutionary War who was best known for his treason to the American cause; Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, American hero of the Great Lakes during the War of 1812 and his younger brother Commodore Matthew C. Perry, who was sent by President Millard Filmore to compel the opening of Japan to the West with the Convention of Kanagawa in 1854; and Stephen Arnold Douglas who debated Abraham Lincoln in 1858 before a senate race and later lost to him in the 1860 presidential election.) ---------------- (Note: Rose Westcott's mother Rachel Holmes was the daughter of John Holmes and Rachel Waterbury. Rachel Holmes's father John Holmes, born 1635, in Beverly, County York, England, was the son of Francis Holmes of Stamford. Francis Holmes was born about 1600 in Yorkshire, England and married in England Ann (maiden name unknown). She was born about 1602 in England and died in Fairfield Connecticut. Francis died 3 March 1675 in Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut. Francis Holmes was a blacksmith. He lived in Stamford, Conn. Francis and Ann Holmes arrived from Suffolk Co., England and settled in Watertown. It is uncertain when they arrived, whoever it was in or before 1633, because their oldest son, Stephen, was born in Watertown in 1634. In 1636, Francis and Ann Holmes, moved from Watertown, Mass. to Wethersfield, CT. John Holmes. son of Francis Holmes and Ann, married, on 11 May 1659 to Rachel Waterbury. John Holmes was an original Proprietor. John Holmes Sr., aged 75 years born 1635, died 1729 in Bedford, son of Francis Holmes. Rachel Holmes's mother Rachel Waterbury was born 1639 in Watertown, Middlesex Co., MA., and died BEF 1710 in Bedford, Westchester Co., NY. She was the daughter of John Waterbury and Rose Taylor. John Waterbury was born 30 Jun 1621 in Sudbury, England, and died 31 May 1658 in Stamford, Fairfield Co., CT. Rose Taylor was born 1621 in England, and died 12 Feb 1684 in Stamford, Fairfield Co., CT. She was the daughter of Gregory Taylor and Achsah (maiden name unknown). Gregory Taylor was born c1590 in Haverhill, Suffolk, England, and died 24 Sep 1657. He came to New England in 1630 with the Winthrop fleet. He resided in Watertown, Stamford, CT. His occupation in 1654 was a farmer. His first spouse Achsah (maiden name unknown) died in 1630. His second Spouse Alice (maiden name unknown) was born c1590, and died in 1657. They had a son Samuel Taylor. The surname Waterbury is first found in Salem, Mass in 1630 with the immigrants William and Alice. There is an English coat of arms for this surname with earliest name in pipe rolls that of Gilbert de Waterberi found in Coventry. ------------- (Note: Here is a history of Rachel Waterbury's family -------- John Waterberye, a "sherman" or cloth dresser, was admitted freeman at Sudbury, Suffolk Co., England, 17 June 1588. St. Peter's Church, Sudbury, records indicate: John Austen, alias John Waterburye was buryed the fyrst daye of September, 1596, Father of: William Waterbury, son of John Waterburye. St. Peter's Church records indicate: Wm. the sonne of John Waterbery was baptized XI jth day of March 1593-4. When John Winthrop embarked from Cowes, England on 29 March 1630 to take the charter of the Massachusetts Bay Colony to America, William Waterbury and his wife Alice Parchetteborn Abt. 1600 in Lincolnshire, England, whom he married Abt. 1618 in Sudbury, Suffolk, England were included among the passengers of the Eagle, afterwards named the Arbella, one of four ships in Winthrop's fleet. They settled for a time in Watertown, Massachusetts. Their names appear as the 35th and 36th members of the church there. William and Alice supposedly returned to England a few years after arriving in Massachusetts, but no trace of their deaths has been found in England or America. Children (baptisms recorded at St. Peter's Church, Sudbury, Suffolk Co., England): Rachell, 25 July 1619, John, 30 December 1621; mentioned below, Mary, 29 February 1624, William, 26 February 1626, died 15 October 1626. William, 9 August 1627, Samuel, 20 September 1629, John Waterbury, born in Sudbury, Suffolk Co., England, baptized 30 December 1621, died 1658, Stamford, Connecticut; married Rose Lockwood of Watertown, Massachusetts. It has been suggested that when William and Alice left to return to England, possibly to retrieve other children and with intentions to return to America, they left John in the custody of the Lockwood family which was established at Watertown in 1630, thus accounting for the romance which sprung up between he and Rose. Since no trace of his siblings have ever been found on this side of the Atlantic, it has been supposed that John and Rose are the progenitors of all who bear the name Waterbury both in the United States, and of the large New Brunswick, Canada, Waterbury family. On 15 October 1646, John and Rose sold their home to Robert Pierce of Watertown and left for Wethersfield, Connecticut, but they soon moved on to Stamford where they remained until John's death at the early age of 37. He was a landowner in Stamford as early as 1650. John served in the Connecticut Colonial Legislature for several years. After John's death, Rose married 11 May 1659 Joseph Gurnsey, by whom she had one son, Joseph, on 30 June 1662. Children of John Waterbury and Rose Lockwood: Rachel Parcett, born 1639 in Watertown, Massachusetts; married 11 March 1659 John Holmes of Stamford, Connecticut.) (Note: There are other sources who think John Waterbury's wife and Rachel's mother was Rose Taylor and not Rose Lockwood.) ---------------- (Note: William Waterbury, whose baptismal record in the register of St. Peter's Church, Sudbury, County Suffolk, England, reads, "Wm. the sonne of John Waterbury, was baptised the xij th Day of March 1593/4," was probably baptized as a child. William Waterbury of Sudbury, "saymaker," on 1 Oct 1610 gave bondsfor Thomas Bettes of Sudbury, weaver, and was then surely more than 16 years of age. William had become supervisor of commons 16 Oct 1619, and was again sorecorded on 20 Oct 1621. He was called a weaver, however, he was presented at the Borough Court of Sudbury 1 Jan 1622/3 "for practising the trade or mystery of a clothier in making of woolen cloth called says without being educated in orapprenticed to the trade." On 20 Sep 1620 William "Waterberry" of Sudbury had been presented at the Burough Court for an unrecorded offense. He was fined 12 pence on 30 May 1621, presumably for the 1620 misdeed. He was fined 12 pence 31 Jul 1623 for giving short measure, and on 21 Oct 1623 was fined 6 pence "forhaving his measure, called his yard, deficient in length." Despite these petty offenses, William was made a juror of the Borough Court 2 Jan 1621/2, and on 4Oct 1624 was elected as a food inspector. John Winthrop, who became the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, lived in Groton, only six miles from Sudbury, its market town. It appears probable that William Waterbury joined with the large group of emigrants who sailed in the Winthrop Fleet to the New World. Mr. Winthrop and the other officers of the company of the Massachusetts Bay embarked 8 Apr 1630 from Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, in the ship ARBELLA, arriving off Salem 12 Jun 1630. The names of all the other ships of the fleetare not known, nor are detailed passenger lists extant. "The History of New England, 1630 to 1649," by John Winthrop, provides a list of those who in February 1629/30 expressed their intentions of joining his company. Included in the list are the surnames of 74 heads of families, few of them shown with given names. Among them appears the name "Waterbury." Since John, the oldest son of William Waterbury, was then a boy eight years old, it is highly probable that the name in the list referred to his father. James Savage, in his "A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England," states that William Waterbury, "Boston, prob. came in the fleet with Winth with w Alice, was adm of our ch the first yr, their names being Nos. 35 and 6. As no more is heard of either, I conclude they d soon, or went home."SOURCE: (1) Text by Elizabeth Barrett Gillespie.) ------------- (Note: The Holmes surname is of ancient Viking origins - root of "Holm" is the Viking holm, meaning an island (in particular a slightly raised land lying on flat land or partially surrounded by streams). The explanation below gives one explanation on the transference of Holm as a place name to Holme and Holmes as surnames and why many Holmes have resulted. "Being restricted in area, many Holms were unable to support large communities and there was frequent movement to new places where work was available. The emigrants would have been known to their new neighbors as "the folk from the holm," which over time would have modified into Holme or Holmes. "Supporting the Viking connection is that fact the the names Holme and Holmes are mainly to be found in northern and eastern England, areas where the Danelaw held sway and where the Danish/Viking influence was strong. An alternative origin of holm, again locational, is the Old English holegn becoming holm and holm oak or holly tree. Holmfirth in the West Ridings of Yorkshire, for instance, meant "the group of holly trees." And Holme or Holmes was the man who lived by the holly tree. The name Urkell de Holmes appeared in the Yorkshire assize court rolls of 1219 and Holmes have been more numerous in that county than in any other since that time. The manor of Paull Holme on Humberside was owned by the Holme family, who took their name from the place, from about 1295 (the remains of the Paull Holme tower bear witness to the marriage of John Holme and Elizabeth Wasteneys in 1438). Another Holme family were local gentry at Huntington Hall near York from 1500 and maybe earlier. Wilfrid Holme of this family was a Protestant poet, publishing his interestingly named tract The Fall and Evil Success of Rebellion in 1537. And the Holmes name appears frequently among the early farmer names in Nidderdale in north Yorkshire.Thomas Holme, a blacksmith from Cheshire in Elizabethan times, was the forebear of four generations of Randle Holmes who were herald painters and early genealogists. All four painted memorial boards and hatchments, some of which can still be found in Cheshire churches.Holmes in Liverpool date from the late 1500's (in Maghull). Samuel Holme was a self-made builder in the town who, in the 1830's and 1840's, was one of its largest employers. He built himself a large mansion called Holmestead (which still stands) and was a mayor in the 1850's. A Holmes line further north began with Robert Holmes who moved in the late 1500's from Lancaster to county Cork in Ireland where he became the provost of Mallow. His grandson was the colorful Sir Robert Holmes. This family maintained estates in Ireland and the Isle of Wight until the early 19th century when the eldest daughter Elizabeth married William Ashe a Court and created the Holmes a Court line.)
