Dunham, 38 years, 6 months, 20 days, was instantly killed when the oil truck he was driving , was struck by one of Nelson Brothers trucks, driven by Morris Temple. With Dunham in his oil truck, was J. L. Pfeneger, who was unhurt. Pfeneger stated that Dunham was driving east of Spruce St. when they observed the Nelson truck coming n of Jefferson. Dunham threw up his left hand, indicating that he was going to turn north onto Jefferson, then apparently changed his mind and continued east on Spruce. Just as the oil truck reached the middle of Jefferson St. it swerved, and the oil truck was turned half way around so that it was facing south. The oil truck then started to skid, and after rolling east for about 14 yd, turned over into a ditch, pinning Dunham underneath. The back seat of the oil truck alighted on Dunham, crushing in the back of his head and breaking his neck just below the base of the brain. He lived only about 5 min. Pfeneger cleared the truck as it turned over, and was hurled about 4 ft in the air, alighting in the ditch just beyond the truck where Dunham was pinned underneath. Jesse "Bud" Cope, employed at Siebenmann Garage, witnessed the accident from the rear door of the garage. He told the office girl, Miss Bernadine Corzine, to call a Dr., and then with Carl Keehner, also on Siebenamn's Garage, ran down to the accident. These 2 men assisted by Pfenger, lifted the truck off Dunham and carried the dying man to a clean spot of grass. Dr Laurens Enox and Dr. B. A. Marsden, arrived but could do nothing as Dunham had died shortly after their arrival. The body was removed to Jacoby undertaking parlors, where an inquest was to be held.
